Interview with World of Goo makers, Ron Carmel and Kyle Gabler - Image 1 The most-nominated title in this year's Independent Games Festival (IGF) is World of Goo, a physics based puzzle game, featuring goo balls living in their world of goo. It's currently released for the PC, but there are developments to release it for the Mac, Linux, and Wii platform.

In an interview with Gamasutra, Ron Carmel and Kyle Gabler talked about their latest creation. We found it interesting when they started chatting about how they were able to create such a game, their opinions on the state of the independent game developers, and their thoughts on the game itself.

World of Goo's creation came from the Gabler's prototype, Tower of Goo. As for the game's design, Gabler said that his inspiration came from a girl he knew back in college. She was a control freak party planner with hands like a Tyrannosaurus Rex, touches nothing and flicks only her fingers and wrists. He found it really fascinating.

And on the independent game development scene, Garbler's amazed at the quality of flash games that were made by kids not old enough to drink yet.

Finally, when they were asked about the most interesting element in their game, Garbler said,

People seem to like "the friendly Sign Painter" - a mysterious tipster leaving you signposts in each level... there is a deliberate "story" that happens throughout the game, but it is entirely optional and never explicitly told... It ends up being more a "suggested emotional journey" through "themes" (giant corporation stuff, booth babes, quest for self discovery, enlightenment, blah blah blah)... Forget I said that. It's all about feelings!
