Modern Warfare 2 - Image 1More news from the BMO Capital Markets Forums. It looks like Activision's got something up their sleeves for Call of Duty online players. More fees to be paid.

Activision CFO, Tom Tippl has disclosed that players might just as well start expecting to be charged for certain online play or features:

It's definitely an aspiration that we see potential in, particularly as we look at different business models to monetize the online gameplay. There's good knowledge exchange happening between the Blizzard folks and our online guys.

We have great experience also on Call of Duty with the success we had on Xbox Live and PlayStation Network. A lot of that knowledge is getting actually built into the Battle.Net platform and the design of that. I think it's been mutually beneficial, and you should expect us to test and ultimately launch additional online monetization models of some of some of our biggest franchises like Call of Duty.

He goes on to say that with these paid services, the gamers will sure be getting the content they've been asking for. So it should be worth it.

Our gamers are telling us there's lots of services and innovation they would like to see that they're not getting yet. From what we see so far, additional content, as well as all the services Blizzard is offering, is that there is demand from the core gamers to pay up for that.

Man their game may be good but it's not worth the the fee. If this was an MMO then it would be worth it. Seriously, FPS shouldn't be charged at all to play. If they charge for their next game then consider MW2 the last CoD game that I buy.

Re: CatchEisley - 4 days ago
 » Agreed

Aren't software sales going down because of the economy? They should probably realize that the people on their website filling surveys and asking for all these extras aren't the "core" group of gamers that buy the game. Most gamers don't even go on the internet to check up on gaming news, they just get the next big thing.

» What I'd really like to know...

...is just *who* and *where* are all these gamers that are telling Activision that "there's lots of services and innovation they would like to see that they're not getting yet" ....and (even better) where are the gamers who are telling them, "I'd love to pay for that!" ---I don't know about you, but I smell a rat! ;-)

» why do I feel LUCKY

I for one have never played a COD game and don't ever plan to buy one..........I was never a fan of COD so I can give a rats a55 about them charging for online play...............As I have stated over and over it's just an over saturated FPS market with nothing much different from the newer version compared to the old one EXCEPT LET'S MAKE IT FEEL DIFFERENT BY FORCING EVERYONE TO PAY FOR PLAYING ONLINE FOR A RUSH OUT SUPER CRAPPY VERSION ON COD............... I'll stick to Killzone2 as anything other than that is unnecessary and a waste of money

as ive said 60 days before , IW aim players money , now they say it ,

listen if you suport this company , while world game industry are watching , gaming will probably dead for at less 10 years , why some companies should work hard for long time and give hight end games , while some sell poor games with many ads , game industry will turn to ADS and corumpted magazines .

any one who will pay extra money for IW is a gamer coward .

and this is exactly why they moved to console , and prevented PC community from mods excepcting many will move to console version after they will start selling DLC .

IW is a sh*i*t company .

people stop been a fanboy , play games compare and have your own opinion , magazines opnion are corumpted , COD MW2 is a Money machine it will all noobs money and when they will notice that its was a ripp , a new COD MW3 show on TV ADS , its a big marketing project aiming kids and new players .

visit amazone and buyers reviews
visit metacritic and read buyers reviews

youll be shoked .

IF IW sucess in its operation , trust me all companies will do the samething including JAP companies , and that will be the end of video gaming ,

so no more 5 years devlopement like ( MGS , GT , FF ) yes why they will pusj them self to produce a hight end game whille they can sell the NAME ,

IVe played alot of game on all console , and suport any good game , including COD4 played it since 2007 to now , i have bouth a digital copy , and 360 pc ps3 one ,

but this one is a scam a ripp a consperancy of ads and marketing , pls dont buy it and tell video games devlopers that we need
respect
and good games.

» I think you need to read the article again

It's Activision who are the bad guys, not Infinity Ward. Activision are the guys who decided to bump the price up, not IW. Activision are the ones talking about charging for online multiplayer, not IW. Do you see a pattern emerging here?
IW aren't to blame, and they shouldn't be tarred with the same brush just because they developed the game.

   Re: vizard00 - 4 days ago
 » how

how stupid , taking out Dedicated servers , and invite poeples to play in their service , and now they ask for fees ,

i cant believe its realy happen from sush a big company , i wont accept this insult

   Re: Bountyhunter53 - 4 days ago
 » LOL!

Activision were the ones who told IW to sort out their piracy problems. So they got rid of the main way of making "cracked" servers. Activision also said to put the price up of the game. Your already probably paying for X-live.......

IW are a rare breed of devs who actually listened to feedback and actually kept contact with the players even after release. They put in bling for us as we wanted it. We said no martyrdom so they put it as a death streak so it isn't overused by noob's.

Do you remember GT5 crew asking you what cars you want in the game?

At the moment people like you who don't fully understand the situation are blaming IW. IW has to bend to Activision or there funding is gone. If funding is gone who's gonna pay for the people working on it, are you gonna pay? Who's going to pay the disc pressers?

Your argument doesn't make sense and it never did.

One more thing, ill make this really clear, GAMING WILL NEVER EVER DIE.

Re: narutosaiyan - 4 days ago
 » gt5 crew

doesnt need to ask u what cars to put in the game because they put all of them. IW are taking tips from microsof and becoming greedy pigs. it started with raising pc game prices

   Re: Bountyhunter53 - 4 days ago
 » .....

Ill say this once more. Activision calls all of the financial shots. The devs work and make a game and hand it to Activision who do everything....

I'm not a IW fanboy but I can't let people bad mouth other people who haven't done anything wrong except from making a award winning game.

IW has to bend to Activision or there funding is cut. If funding is gone who's gonna pay for the people working on it, are you gonna pay? Who's going to pay the disc pressers?

Re: Shatterdome - 4 days ago
 » ....

Listen to bounty hunter.....developers !+ to publishers....

devs are the grunts and the publishers are the evil overlords.

Sure IW could refuse to work on CoD, but that will never happen, and I don't blame them....regardless of what activision does.

I just find it funny that since blizzard and activision merged, that they think they can start charging monthly fees for everything......not every game is world of warcraft...

Re: narutosaiyan - 4 days ago
 » crap

my bad, i meant activision, not iw, but this still doesnt mean iw are saints...they are making the game

   Re: vizard00 - 4 days ago
» what! IW listen to players !

@Bountyhunter53 :

all my respect to Polyphony , and pls dont compare rippers to that nice company .

COD was the most selled FPS game , and now IW insult the community by pirates lol ,
if Iw think that they made a sow nice game that must not be pirated , no my friend , COD6 or COD 4.5 is a very very bad game , made specialy for noobs and no brain players , all what made COD 4 a big game was trashed , the nice distructive level design is gone and we have a rainbow six vegas level design made by Turbosquad 3D models .

IW listen to players feedback " hahahaha" man are you serius
- changing controls without alert
- taking out leaning control
- taking out dedicated servers
- shouting down the IW cod forum
- 200.000 : petitions
- 700 : 1 to 3 /5 star rating in amazon from buyers
- 1.5/5 : user rating in metacritic

every web site i open i find people comlaining about the 3 hours game play and even console players complain about lags , and PC servers are empty yes who will play with noobs or with far server .

" Man who did the right thing a have moral dont need to be asked " .

the name of IWNET is composed from IW + net , so its directly related to IW also , tryarche will put Dedicated servers , and they work with Acitivision too , or we will have TRyarchNET ?! :) ,

IW managed to seduce new comers to COD and ruined COD4 veterans , now they uplaod video like ( stop spam nades and spam knife ) , if the game is well balanced and have a good MP level design spame nade and knife woulds afect game play as in COD4 , good players manage to move and take cover in the right time , " offf just remembred the bad nade efect in COD6 "

and here come my latest discovry in MW2 , grenades have a bad and wrong phiscs path and bounce grenade lunshers too " what just happended to IW" .

Guys if you pay for IWNET

many companies will set hiden fees in PC games and if IWNET succed , you can say bye to :

- to all Dedicated servers
- FPS community
- Mods
- Hardcore gaming

on any game on market

and maybe

Battelfield BC2 online " why not they can build it in in no time and give us the same statement "

IW or Activision , ill not suport you after this on any platform ,

" yesterday a friend who ordered MW2 PC , told him about 16#16 , no lean , matrchmaking and the fees , he opened his eyes and deep in silence he was shokked and was just about to cry , he is a poor guy and saved money hardly , bcz he trusted on IW . "

tl;dr

   Re: Bountyhunter53 - 3 days ago
 » .....

You high? If IW didn't listen to the fools at Activision we would've had one less game this year.

Imagine you being the the dev and me being your boss. If you didn't do what i said and you did things that would hurt my companies profit, i would send hitmen to your house.

I haven't seen anyone use leaning control in COD4... The game was to fast paced so there was no point and it helped campers. The controls are the same on the PC and PS3 but a few moved here and there which helps playability.

And the petitions you talked about. If you made a petition telling me to stop doing something against my interests i would say "FU". And the low reviews are from people like you who don't fully understand the hierarchy of the gaming world.

If your a dev, your a loser who sits at the computer all day miserably working to make a fun game for us. While the publisher just takes the game looks at it, consults their financial department and ask if its profitable and would there be big losses. They pointed out piracy. Activision went to IW and said "sort this ***** out NOW!" and they did i.e IWnet. Actvision then showed the game again to their financial depts and they said ok. Shareholders and other high ranked people said ok. Then its released. If anything goes wrong your ass as a dev is on the line.

One more thing are you playing the PC version of MW2 and was it made by IW, not u?. Cause i just went on and it said 104856 people online with 256 3rd person cage match games and the rest with 1800+ games.

And how is IWnet gonna end the world of gaming? If the LHC thingy shaped as a hula-hoop created a black hole i would take my PSP into the black hole and play it. Gaming would still live on. Gaming cannot ever die unless you kill off humans, animals and all other living things. As humans can play games. Animals and other living things play games but not electronic ones.

   Re: vizard00 - 3 days ago
 » ok

im tired ok ,

and every one playing HC servers on COD4 use leaning bcz one shoot kill , so you must use Lean to prefire , anyway im nothing to judge sush a big company .

i think Activision and IW are not too stupid to kill the series , maybe this one is for profit and the next one will be ok ,

let the nature make its selection ,

i give up

Re: Serosis - 4 days ago

What's funny is they have being doing this crap since their inception...

The earliest I remember is they spearheaded StarControl 3 but without the original developers/writers. In doing so they had effectively killed a franchise.
by GUNBEHINDTHESUN - 4 days ago
 » Not Worth It

Sure the Call Of Duty series is pretty good, but if all games with online play made you start shelling out money, there would be a lot less of us playing online. Out of 20 online games I would only be able to pay for one at a time, if that even. What are they going to do next, send arcade machines to our house and come collect the money once a week? This is getting out of hand!

 » I can't believe it....

Just, what the hell? I didn't believe that they would honestly go down this path. But there they are, saying that we should "expect" to see these "services" in the future.

I think something just broke inside me.

 » I smell a MoH:Modern Combat game and a Battlefield comeback.

With how ActiBliz has been acting lately this is NOW the time for MoH to return to its past glory putting the CONSOLE gamer ahead of the PC PIRATES, unlike what they were doing back in the early 2000s. The fact is that MoH is a PSX franchise and PSX gamers made it. IW think they're original, when they ripped off elements of MANY EA Games, tho I DO enjoy COD1-WaW (not counting the Xbox/PS2 iterations) I still think that COD4 was a BF copy. And also in BFBC you get 24 player support as opposed to the lousy 12 player combat you get on COD. The most you can get is 18 and its usually laggy cause there's a bunch of idiots who think "more people means more chances to die". I don't care about K/D as long as the game's fun I will play. So.....HURRY UP WITH THE NEW MOH AND BF GAMES!!!! I gave up on COD after they made Modern Welfare 2 aka call of duty 4.5 since I see little to no changes in the game.

» I felt something like this would happen

I always felt that Bilizzard was a crappy company. Never cared for any of there games.
The two things that realy killed it for me was killing StarCraft: Ghost(That would have been one of the only game that I would have liked to play) and dropping Ghostbusters: The Video Game, and Wet. the reason, they didn't "have the potential to be exploited every year on every platform with clear sequel potential and have the potential to become $100 million dollar franchises."
There words. The merger between Activision and Bilizzard is the worst thing for gameing. This is above what EA has done in the past.

   Re: Jeffyboy582 - 4 days ago
 » Backwards

I disagree that Blizzard is the reason behind any of this. In fact Blizzard is one of the only companies that consistantly comes out with well polished games no matter how long it takes them, which usually means it takes forever. Obviously this consistant quality comes at a price and Activision's business mentality will want to exploit that.

» have they not milked the series enough

their main selling point of the modern warfare series happens to be the online factors, it is what we pay for yet they want more money for it, i for 1 will never get another of their games if they charge for using the game!!!!! but obviously as a company their game plan is to screw us out of as much money as possible

by YAMI ANUBIS X - 3 days ago
» Actually all of this was started by Bobby Kotick

A week ago, something came out unto the internet with him saying that he wants people to pay for online fees on COD games now, even on PS3 and he announced the price would be 50 dollars for a year.

Even on Xbox 360. You have to pay an additional 50 dollars, just to play this game.

Bobby Kotick is the one who made all that BS up about players wanting to pay fees for his games now.
