PC Gaming news on QJ.NET! - Image 1

Gamasutra got a hold of Paul Sams, chief of operations at Blizzard Entertainment, at the recent World Wide Invitational last weekend, and following an interview with senior vice president Rob Pardo, discovered that both agree on the same point: Microsoft is focusing a lot on their gaming system and is leaving PC gaming to fend for itself.

That notion was already put forth by several analysts, though Stardock Systems grasped a few ideas here and there to formulate a plausible theory. According to them, Microsoft can't try much to strengthen PC gaming without someone calling foul on Redmond's software behemoth.

Either way, Sams does believe that Microsoft can market PC gaming. He opined:

...I kind of look at [the situation] and say to myself - and I think similarly to [what] Rob [says] - is that it would be great if [Microsoft] put more emphasis on the Windows operating system, [because it is] certainly probably the most prominent operating system in the world. Even more so than console boxes.

And they own and operate that system, so having them put more energy and effort against [Windows] - and they would say that they are [putting more energy and effort against Windows], but I think that there's more that can be done.

Microsoft has always been active in the operating profits gig, and where it's biggest operations are, that's where they'd definitely put more focus to. While Windows 7 is definitely in development and geared to arrive in two years, Sams says that most of the investments are herding around their game console. He mused,

It makes sense to me, what they're doing, they're putting their energy and focus against the 360. That's where their huge R&D dollars are that they have to earn out on and that's where I think their gaming bread and butter is right now.

We'll probably learn more from Paul Sams in the near future, especially on this creeping rumor linked to his name that the Xbox 360 might - we say just *might* - receive Diablo 3. More on that as we get them.
