Box art for Infinity Ward's Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare - Image 1While Nintendo had everything in the bag when it came to nabbing the prestige for having the best gaming platforms for 2007, Activision is wavied its own standard for its own successful title when Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (PC, Xbox 360, PS3) was announced as the top software title in terms of units sold worldwide for the previous year.

According to the numbers brought forward by The NPD Group, Chart Track, and The GFK Group, CoD4 has sold over seven million copies since its launch last November.

Developed by Infinity Ward, this latest iteration to the Call of Duty series has garnered more than 18 perfect score reviews in various gaming websites, as well as over 40 combined Editor's Choice and Game of the Year awards in the U.S. alone. Aside from that, it has also been nominated for 10 categories from the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences and is considered the top selling title on the Xbox 360 console.

Will Kassoy, Senior Vice President of the global brand management for Activision had this to say about their successful title:

We're very excited about this achievement especially given so many competitive titles this year. Consumer and critics agree that Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is one of the best games ever created and further establishes Call of Duty as one of the premier brands in the industry. This ground-breaking game and franchise continue to establish new standards by which all other action games will be judged.

 » Halo? What halo?

Man have you played this game? Apparently not! No offence but you are missing big time!

Halo3 is good and thats because I like Sci-Fi staff but COD4 is in a league on its own the constant rush of the battle is so impressive you wont believe it (and if you have a surround system...you're in for a treat!!!Trust me i know!!)...I've played it on my bros 360 first and half way through the game I found my self in the nearest game shop buying the game for my ps3...

If you are going to buy just one game from 2007 make sure its COD4! nough said.

 » Uh kiddies...

it just BARELY beat Halo 3 (which also sold 7 million, so it would be down to a "point" something of a million diff) and sold so on only ONE platform....COD had 3 times as many platforms, one being the PC which has a ridiculous amount of users.....

So really it's not surprising, or that great of a feat.....

Shatterdome. Though the question was sarcastic... Halo3 was more of a phenominon than CoD4.

IMO the two games are nothing alike past the FPS part. Call of Duty 4 is absolutely amazing but so is Halo3. They are just totally different for me though. Much like vanilla and chocolate I'm glad I can have both types o' ice cream.

Big WoooooooOOOOOT!!! To Infinity Ward though for making a great game. Can't wait til 6 comes out.
