A couple of days ago, some of the readers here will probably remember Sega's announcement regarding their plans to shut down their Birmingham-based Racing Studio. This new was followed up by a recent rumor stating that Codemasters was making moves to purchase the studio. Guess what - it's all true. Codemasters has just sent out a press wire confirming that they've taken over Sega Racing Studio. From the way Codemasters' CEO Rod Cousens phrased his statement, it appears that most of the guys there will be keeping their jobs too: In seizing this opportunity, we have created additional resources to escalate our plans in the racing segment. We hope to welcome more than 40 people to the company and we have enjoyed the full co-operation of our friends at Sega in making this happen. It is good business for Codemasters, an exciting prospect and there will be more to come as we are not content to stand still. For their part, Codemasters has developed some pretty solid racing titles such as Colin McRae: DiRT for the Xbox 360, PC, and PlayStation 3 . The Racing Studio on the other hand was responsible for Sega Rally Revo (PC, Xbox 360, PS3, and PSP). Here's to hoping that this new acquisition will be bringing us more games like these in the near future. Drop by again in case we pick up any further updates. |
