EA's Battlefield Heroes PC - Image 1

Electronic Arts has announced that they will be releasing Battlefield Heroes this summer. Developed by DICE, the creators of both Battlefield 1942 and Battlefield 2142, this cartoon-style shooter will be the first title released under EA's new Play 4 Free business model.

FPS fans can expect some pretty neat features in Battlefield Heroes including a built-in match making system and various character customization options. As for how the game will play, here's what EA DICE Senior Producer Ben Cousins had to say about it:

We put a different twist on this Battlefield game going with the cartoon-style graphics and gameplay. There’s something here for all types of players -- be it our core Battlefield fans or casual gamers.

With the new online model, we will continually add new content to keep the game fresh and keep players engaged, while integrating player feedback in real time. As a game developer, it is such a cool new way to make games.

Although EA is technically releasing Battlefield Heroes for free, it is still expecting the game to generate money from both microtransactions and advertising. This means that players can probably expect premium content to be offered for a fee as well as some in-game advertisements.

Its like deja vu, I could swear I own this game... what was it called again?... Oh yeah, Team Fortress 2. Nice way to be "original", EA. I do like that the basic game is free though, and as long as the advertising isn't intrusive then I won't care.

 » Agreed

It gave off such a strong Team Fortress 2 vibe. Either that of they got Disneys Incredibles. LOL I still havent forgiven EA for much of the past craziness theyve done, so Im skeptical about how theyll do microtransactions and advertising with this one.

My exact thoughts upon seeing the screenshot, EA has the nerve to claim creativity when all they do is copy better developers.

Now, Just in case anyone was confused let me explain this sentence: "we will continually add new content"

+ "We will charge for patches". Prepare to be nickel and dimed to death fellow gamers, Take a look at what EA has done on 360 microtransactions and multiply it by 10.

I love the art and gameplay style of Team Fortress 2 and it'd be great to see that style expanded into more games, especially Battlefield. Unlike the two idiots above me, I can't wait for this. Hopefully EA won't screw it up though.

Idiots? Hardly fair. The game is very unoriginal at first glance. TF2 makes a splash and suddenly EA is releasing something that looks just like it. Unless it has some really unique gameplay, then the two "idiots" above you are right, and you're the real idiot.
