FilePlanet giving out QUAKE Wars beta keys, more info - Image 1

Being one of id Software's premiere places to host the beta of Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars (also for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3), FilePlanet is now offering a chance for PC gamers subscribed in any service of the site to grab a chance to test out the latest QUAKE title from Splash Damage, together with the development teams themselves.

FilePlanet slipped the first batch of beta keys to FilePlanet subscribers, while they've already forwarded an announcement to other FilePlanet members about to receive the second batch. As of now, the offer is temporarily halted until further notice. FilePlanet reports that they will also open up the offer to non-subscribers (but registered members) of the site, so if you don't have a GameSpy ID, now's the time to grab one up for this once in a lifetime.

According to Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars community managers, these beta keys are exclusive to FilePlanet and does not count against the 60,000 beta keys announced previously by Splash Damage. FilePlanet invitees and the (extremely) lucky open-beta testers will have the unique privilege to test "Sewer," a map that is loosely based on one part of the Pacific Theatre campaign, situated in the Miura Peninsula in Kanagawa, Japan.

This offer is only for people who pay a monthly fee. I have a GameSpy and Fileplanet account but they want me to cough up a credit card and sign up for one of their plans to get on the list for a key... too bad I'm not into paying a monthly fee for freeware demos and videos...

...that registered members will also be given keys. They'll probably be given out at Batches 4 and 5, if not 5 only.

Cool, because at the moment the QW Beta link leads straight to their signup page.

Now batch 4 has come and gone, and this page now says "The Enemy Territory: Quake Wars Beta is for Subscribers Only!" and beneath it: "This program is for subscribers only, but you can register for free LIMITED access to our OTHER services." Then they list three payment plans, with the small text at the bottom: "Subscribing does not guarantee participation." So than means I can sign up and start paying for freeware demos and videos right away, but there is no guarantee I'll be in the beta. Wow.
