It seems Infinity Ward isn't too bothered with how realistic Modern Warfare 2 turns out to be. They recognize that what they're out to do is to entertain people, and so realism will be taking a back seat to entertainment this time around. "We go for authenticity not realism," said studio head Vince Zampella in an interview with Official PlayStation Magazine. "We're not making a sim, we're making entertainment. We want it to look real like an action movie." Zampella also explained that the more futuristic weapons found in Modern Warfare 2 won't be a hindrance to what they're trying to accomplish. Neither does it ruin the game's authenticity. In fact, it adds more to the entertainment, just like in an action movie where the hero does a lot of things that are a little over the top. "It makes for a great movie," Zampella said. It also makes for a great game too, I imagine. We'll find out when Modern Warfare 2 comes out this November 10 on Xbox 360, PS3, and PC. Related articles:

it's about time people realized this and stop judging games on how realistic they are and start judging them on how fun they are

I agree with you, but not in the case of a FPS that takes itself very seriously.
In terms of a game like Team Fortress though I would otherwise agree with what you said.

I'd rather something be realistic AND fun at the same time. No reason to pick one over the other.

Since when was CoD *supposed* to be realistic? Not a single CoD game was announced to be realistic. Pre-CoD4 was just like a WW2 Action Film, and the Modern games are simply modern action movie games. That's essentially all it is.

"We go for authenticity not realism...we want it to look real like an action movie.", way to contradict yourself.
I respect that Infinity Ward is sticking to the formula that their fans enjoy. This statement is obviously in regards to CoD reflex based game play compared to Killzone 2's realistic heavy game play.

Who in their right mind would think the Call of Duty series is a sim? It's gameplay is very arcadeic (In an awesome addicting adrenalin based way).
The only thing that's close to life is the modeling and level design. They've got some great people working to create believable places in their games. :)

» yes but
we just need it to be logic , i mean nice realistic 3d models and rendering thats why we selected COD 4 as a 1st fps for 2 years ,
COD 4 features :
1 - realistic outdoor lighing and very good soldiers modeling
2 - amazing hight definition textures
3 - impacts best one seen yet
4 - animation clean and made by masters
5 - voice and sounds all go good
6 - weapons 10/10
if one od does things is missing we will be disapointed trust me
and we play COD 4 for realism not for entertainment ,
by the way COD concept is to relive the story and conflics , so why they said that now
we dont need a COD mw2 with halo weapons or crisys suite , we need real things in this game .
hope you understand me guys
in the end just remember why weve played COD 1 COD 2 COD 3 COD 4

Thats funny. People, what they're trying to do is entertain. Call of Duty is not supposed to be a war simulator. Well, the modern warfare games aren't. The WW2 games are, for the most part, simulators. Call of Duty 4 and now Modern Warfare are trying to deliver an entertaining experience in their campaigns akin to movies. Anyone who played the first games campaign would see that.
He doesn't mean realism as in physics, lighting, guns and all that. That would fall under authenticity. He means realism as in, storyline, bad guys, war motivations and things like that. There was no sort of moral grey area in 4 like there are in the WW2 games but its clear cut who's "good" and whos "bad" in Modern warfare, thats all.

we will see what they have made with the godfather engine this time .
weve alredy losed rainbow six ravenshield for hightech fomula , and the fact that infinity yard warn us about the game vision mean they dont want us to be surprised or shoked and we will be im sure , anyway if MW2 is bad no one will buy it and we will play COD 4 .

as long as they use real life weapons I'm cool. I don't want to find myself using "Halo weapons".
