Owners of Capcom's Lost Planet (Xbox 360, PC), may want to watch out for next week, as the company reports that a new series of game downloadables will be cropping up. For the PC gamers in particular, expect an automatic patch to kick in this August 16, which will carry specialized DirectX 10 Geometry Shaders. This update is expected to enhance DirectX 10 capabilities, including visual effects like depth of field effects, motion blur, and fur shading.

The second part of the patch is support for a new chat system in Lost Planet PC's multiplayer mode. This feature will carry four general messages to be used to communicate with other players in the lobby, in-game, and result screens. Here's a shortlist :
  • Lost Planet screenshot - Image 1Lobby
    • Let’s go.
    • Hold on a sec.
    • It’s nice to meet you.
    • Roger!
  • In-game
    • Thank you.
    • I’m sorry.
    • You’ve gotta hold’em off!
    • Roger!
  • Result Screen
    • Let’s go.
    • Thank you.
    • What do we do now?
    • Thanks.
Last on the list is Lost Planet PC's Map Pack 2, which will carry Battleground, Lost Technology, Ruins, and Ice Drop. These maps were originally part of Lost Planet's Packs 2 and 3 for the Xbox 360, with their PC port now being handed out for free.

For the Xbox 360-based owners, good news comes with the announcement that your Map Pack 3 (Lost Technology, Ruins, and Ice Drop) will be available for free. And as previously reported, Map Packs 1 and 2 will also be free. All three packs are available on Xbox Live at the same time as the PC updates (August 16) - just be sure to have ample storage space to hold them all. Also expect an update to improve connectivity to be released in the near future.

Lost Planet: Extreme Condition - Image 1European video game news site Eurogamer reports that a patch for the PC version of Capcom's Lost Planet: Extreme Condition is coming soon. The patch will reportedly contain new view modes, multiplayer tweaks, and additional characters.

New view modes include a Resident Evil 4-style view mode, a new "Wide mode" and a movie mode for viewing Lost Planet: Extreme Condition's cutscenes. The multiplayer update includes a feature that allows players to see connected players in a multiplayer game.

The additional characters are presumably for the game's multiplayer mode. One of the additional characters making their debut in the upcoming patch is Capcom's iconic character Mega Man. Dead Rising hero Frank West will also be included in the patch.

According to Eurogamer, a specific release date for the 400MB patch was not announced. It was mentioned, however, that the patch will be released to coincide with the re-launch of Map Packs 1 and 2 as free downloads for the Xbox 360.

What we have for you below still came from E3 2007 and is a gameplay video for Lost Planet: Extreme Condition Games for Windows version. This version of the game was just released a couple of weeks ago while its Xbox 360 counterpart has been available for some time now and is enjoying relative success.

This particular gameplay video was dubbed "Icy Monsters" and just like what it implies, you will see here the main protagonist slugging it out with various in an ice-covered terrain. What we've realized after seeing this clip is that the monsters and the icy environment are a lot scarier and more dangerous at night.

Lost Planet: Extreme Condition is a property of Capcom and there have been rumors circulating about a certain sequel called Lost Planet Colonies.
