IGN managed to get a few words from Disney Interactive Studios game director Alex Peters on the studio's latest project, Pirates of the Caribbean: Armada of the Damned, a new action RPG for the Xbox 360, PS3, and the PC. Feel like leaving your landlubber lifestyle to pursue a double life as a ruthless cut-throat?

But before you get ahead of yourselves, there is one teeny-tiny detail you have to take note of - the game's storyline will take place in the same world but before the events of the Pirates of the Caribbean films. When asked about movie characters making appearances in the game *cough* Jack Sparrow *cough*, Peters simply replies, "The original story takes place before and separate from the films, but being part of the universe means anything is possible."

Much of the gameplay will involve exploration. Being a pirate, you gotta explore the islands and find yer next booty. "We want to entice players to explore hidden coves, mysterious inlets and intriguing islands," Peters said. While different characters in the game have their own stories to tell, your actions in the game will affect their lives, and you would be able to choose whether to be the pirate who made a difference, or be the self-serving seadog that you really want to be.

Other gameplay details, such as ship, combat and upgrade systems, will still be detailed further in a future announcement. By then, I'm hoping for at least a Black Pearl or Jack Sparrow cameo. Looking at the screenshot, the thing looks undead, so maybe it might have at least something remotely related to one of the movies.

I played an incredibly fun Pirates of the Caribbean action RPG reminiscent of "Sid Meier's Pirates!". If this game will be anything like that one I, personally, will greatly enjoy it. Let's hope Disney doesn't botch up another game with great possibilities.
