Codemasters has released screenshots of several of their upcoming games over at the Leipzig Games Convention, including Operation Flashpoint 2, Overlord: Dark Legend, Overlord: Minions, and Rise of the Argonauts. Check them out in the full article.

Are you worried that there's been little word about Rise of the Argonauts (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC) as of late? Never fear, says veteran game makers Codemasters. The British devs are giving us their assurance that all is well with the project and a release period was even dropped. Full details in the full article up next.

 

Developer Liquid Entertainment is still on the early stages of its project Rise of the Argonauts (PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC) under the Codemasters publishing banner, but IGN was able to grab hold of some early screens of the game and they're lookin' good.

Rise of the Argonauts, as you may guess, chronicles the adventures of Greek mythological figure Jason and his courageous comrades aboard the ship Argus. They journey to strange lands in search of the Golden Fleece where they encounter monsters and tyrants. Your task is to keep our hero alive so he can look good to kiss some mamas at the ending.

A release date hasn't been drawn up for this PC RPG yet, but chances are it'll hit sometime next year. It was shown in this year's E3 in Santa Monica but the PR trumpets have since remained pretty quiet. We'll update you when new word is out.

With exceptional visuals, brutal one-hit kill moves, and the rich world of Greek mythology to draw from, Codemasters' Rise of the Argonauts for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC is looking to be one of the best-looking (and best-playing) games coming out this year.

Today's update about this ambitious IP is an interview during E3 about the game's Dynamic Combat System which pretty much lets you customize King Jason as you see fit. In this video, we learn about how the game streamlines the RPG experience into something easier, faster and more gratifying.

For instance, levelling up Jason's different areas of expertise is as easy as dedicating your heroic exploits (rescuing people, killing monsters, that sort of malarkey) to the relevant god. We also get to find out that combat in Rise of the Argonauts will be quite the visceral experience. Rather than having your opponents take a set number of hits before finally going down, it's more of a single-hit kill affair.

Rise of the Argonauts has just been announced as UK-based game developer and publisher Codemasters' new RPG project. Currently in development by Liquid Entertainment (the same company which developed Battle Realms), the game is expected to be released on multiple platforms (or on "leading consoles" as Codemasters put it).

Set in ancient Greece, Rise of the Argonauts is said to include "deep exploration and epic quests."  Jason, Hercules, and Atalanta will be playable characters and it has been hinted at that certain mythological gods may get involved in some parts of the game. Interesting stuff, hopefully we'll get more details on the game's features and gameplay along with some screenshots soon.

Barry Jafrato, Senior Vice President of Brand from Codemasters spoke on the game, emphasizing the fact that they have been investing in developing new IPs. "Rise of the Argonauts is a further key property in our 2008 portfolio," he said. Jafrato followed this up by saying, "Codemasters' investment in developing new I.P.s, which will sit alongside the new extensions of our existing brands, reinforces our ongoing commitment to bring original and thrilling new gaming experiences to market."

So far no release date has been given and we can only confirm a PC release since "leading consoles" is a pretty subjective term. More on this game as Codemasters decides to release new information.
