Call of Duty 5 - Image 1After Surfer Girl's good news (rather, good rumor) about the upcoming Call of Duty 5, here comes another news that would surely perk up the ears of those following the game's development: according to some sources, Call of Duty 5 is now currently playable and is going through quality assurance phase.

As previously hinted on, the series' former developer Infinity Ward will not be working on the next Call of Duty, with Activision's Treyarch taking it's place, the same developing team that dealt with Call of Duty 3. They will release the title for the following consoles: Xbox 360, PS3, PC, NintendoDS, and the PS2, and even the Wii.

So what can we expect from COD5? According to the same sources, the game will be set in the World War II timeline, in the Pacific. Call of Duty 5 is also rumored to use the same engine as Call of Duty 4.

It'll be just a matter of time until we see the demo (hopefull playable), then. Do stay tuned for more updates!

And this is on the DS blog... why?

Anyways, can't wait. Never bought a CoD game before #4 and it was awesome.

 » Wait, what?

A DS version?

... Oh joy. That should be a blast.

Why go back to the WW2 timeline?...

World War 2. Taking a step backwards. Thank treyarch

Re: FreePlay - 4 days ago
 » Agreed

We really don't need a half dozen WWII games in the same series. It's a bit ridiculous.

Re: Master Chef - 4 days ago
 » I personally

Would like to see how Treyarch does with this. The CoD series has never done the Pacific campaign, and I would like to see how it comes out. The Medal f Honor games set in the Pacific suck and didn't do that part of WWII justice, so I don't see what's so bad about this.

 » isn't

they already said they will do a ww2 game now and another like cod4 after? they are becoming the new ea between guitar hero and this now.. I hope they don't ruin what they built.

Ok... What?!

DS Version and not a PSP version!?

Even that PSP have lot of great Graphics and lot of space to Put a Large game on there and not just a 32Mb or 64Mb Game for DS!

C'mon!

THis must be a rumor!

Even that the PSP is on the Top for May

Beating the Wii!

I hope they reconsider....

Thanks For such intriguing article :d

 » did you know that...

COD4 came for ds and not for psp right? why not cod5? Call of Duty: Roads to Victory only sold 0.04 and yes... is just another ww2 in the psp but low sells and priracy will scare them I guess... and I'm a psp fan don't get me wrong, I hate the ds...

Re: xploren - 4 days ago
 » To Someone_PR...

Do you know how many people pirate on the DS? Two words should explain it: A LOT. Piracy issues aren't a big deal for DS or PSP, and PSP's piracy level should be significantly lower than DS's level.

Now, the selling is the problem. Many people (especially children) have the DS, and profits roll in for the DS version more than a PSP version. So Activision is returning to good ol' caring about selling rather than creating a great game, like CoD4. Way to go, Activision, for squeezing out every cent from a famous franchise (another example, you say? Guitar Hero. What the hell is with the new Aerosmith game?).

   Re: Someone_PR - 4 days ago
 » yeah... but...

with the ds selling 72 million worldwide and the psp 34 millions always will sell more... is just like the ps3 and xbox 360, with 5 millions more in the user base will sell more.

Now, the other factor is that the psp user are more grown up and now how to install a custom firmware and the ds are more kids and their parents will buy the games that's why no matter what if the game is stupid will sell a lot... that's my opinion anyway.

 » Treyarch blows

The only reason its goin back to WWII is becaue Treyarch is really retarded. They made CoD3 and it was the only game in the CoD series that sucked, my personal opinion. I think im just gonna hold out until 6, which will be made by Infinity Ward since they are making the even numbers and Treyarch is making all the odd numbered games in the series

Re: StainlessSteve - 3 days ago
 » Treyarch ftl

All that is so true. Treyarch needs to give up. They are just piggy backing off CoD4 for sales. Most people don't even realize who the game is made by. My idiot friend said he was reserving number 5 as soon as possible since he loved 4 so much.

 » nooooo

piss off Treyarch, we dont want multi-platform, ps3 and 360 will do just fine

the quality of the game will most likely be ***** now
and if it going back to WWII the story line will too, thats why i ditched medal of honour for COD4, keep it new, maybe something like WAR or whatever that new tom clancy game is, set in the future only realistic unlike most other games,

i bet the handling of this game wont feel right, it will be all querky and sensitive, i dont know cod4 just felt right

 » wow

the one time they mix it up a bit, call of duty becomes the best online shooter, yes it's better than Halo. i hope this really is a rumor because im going to miss my AK-47 and my 50. Cal.

Activision Reveals Call of Duty Plans
Next game in franchise on six platforms, will feature new setting.
by Jimmy Thang

May 8, 2008 - The next Call of Duty will arrive across six different systems before the end of Activision's fiscal year, which ends March 31, 2009, and will feature a "new military theater," according to Activision Publishing CEO Mike Griffith. The undisclosed new setting will try to capitalize on the massive success of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare which, according to an Activision earnings call, has doubled the install base of the franchise ever since the company took the series out of World War II. Next-Gen.biz reports that the next installment of the best selling first person shooter will appear on the DS, PC, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Wii and Xbox 360 platforms.

No word on whether Infinity Ward, the developer of Call of Duty 1, 2, and 4 will develop the game. Up until recently the next Call of Duty was speculated to be developed by Treyarch, the developer responsible for Call of Duty 3, and was rumored to once again take place during WW II. The rumor surfaced when Treyarch looked for a new company position:

"Working experience with First-Person Shooter or Third-Person Shooter genres (console or PC). And if you're a fan of World War 2 shooters, then even better!"

 » I wish

That the game would NOT take place on D Day, and instead it would take place as a special operations team created to destroy the SS... You would go through secret missions that are highly classified. You would head on invade germany, and destroy the SS forces.
You would invade consentration camps, and destroy the Axis by doing this.
Thats just my idea, so i dont have any idea what treyarch will do... but i trust them. they do make great games.

Why Does it say Call Of Duty 5 Modern warfare ;s i thought the details where revealed...

   by 3laiwy - 4 days ago
 » oww yea i forgot

Treyarch sucks big time, i got a RRoD because of them, the game kept freezing on my xbox 360 ( CoD3 ), i got a ps3 to play my CoD4, nd relised that it also works great on my cusins xbox, not only did the game suck, you cant skip the intro which pissed me off... it kept freezing and i dont live inside U.S so i cant send my xbox for repair.. anyway back to topic, not even thinking about buying CoD5 if its developed Treyarch.
"Call of Duty 5 is now currently playable and is going through quality assurance phase."
GOD! wait a year or a couple of months... CoD4 just been released!! ( nov i knw but it aint that old )

"So what can we expect from COD5? According to the same sources, the game will be set in the World War II timeline, in the Pacific. Call of Duty 5 is also rumored to use the same engine as Call of Duty 4."
You know what i expect? i expect this game to have a better, newer story line, and i expect a newer engine for CoD5...
Hell all those games about WWII...instead of buying all those WWII games, id grab a book bout WWII from the library, instead of making WWII make WWI, id like to see how the soldiers live in trenches and all that trying to survive.
