Yoichi Wada - Image 1With so many Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest titles already making their rounds in several consoles and handhelds - and there's more to come, such as Final Fantasy 13 for the Sony PlayStation 3 and Dragon Quest 9 for the DS - one just cannot help but think only about Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest when one hears the name Square Enix.

But is Square Enix really only about those two franchises? In an interview with CNet Japan, Square Enix president Yoichi Wada said that Square Enix is more than FF or DQ. He explained:

It's not that we are not investing in new franchises. It's necessary to do new games, franchises and remakes. With remakes, we're trying to expand the outlook of that world.

If you look at our profits, franchises are 60 percent of our business, while new IPs are 40 percent. There's a misconception that we rely only on Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest, while these titles only make half of our business. It's just that people keep asking for new installments.

Which is quite true. We've got a handful of other IPs from Squeenix, such as Front Mission, Valkyrie Profile, even Kingdom Hearts (if you don't look at it as another Final Fantasy-related title), and not to mention that we still have yet to see some new titles from other old Square Enix IPs, like Parasite Eve.
