The Protoss Observer in Starcraft II - Image 1

According to Sun Tzu, knowing yourself and knowing your enemy are what make for victory on the battlefield. Such is the principle behind the returning Protoss Observer in Blizzard's Starcraft II. Basically a reconnaissance drone built to observe and record battles for study, the Observer is both a cloaked scout and a detector for the Protoss at the same time.

On the battlefield, the Protoss Observer's dual cloaking and detection abilities make it the unit of choice for spying on enemy movement and detecting cloaked enemy units who attempt to sneak past or harass Protoss fleets. As before, Protoss players in Blizzard's Starcraft II may opt to augment the speed and the sensor range of the Observer, further enhancing the usefulness of this auxiliary unit.

It would seem that Blizzard decided to keep the Protoss Observer relatively intact in the transition from the original Starcraft to Starcraft II, at least according to a Wiki entry on the machine. The Observer is still produced by the Protoss Robotics Facility, with the only real difference this time is that a Null Circuit structure will be required for the Robotics Facility to warp the Observer in.

In any case, you can view pictures, as well as some videos of the Observer in action via the source link.
