Supreme Commander's big units dominate

The game Supreme Commander developed by Gas Powered Games and published by THQ is considered by many to be the "Spiritual Successor" of the cult classic Total Annihilation. The game features units of different sizes, though what we will be focusing on are the end game behemoths. So far, three large units have managed to catch our (and IGN's) attention.

Armored Command Unit (ACU):
ACU - Image 1The ACU serves as a command center, barracks, and upgrade hub all in one giant package of pwnage. The scary thing is, you can actually use this as a mobile weapon of destruction once it's been upgraded. After undergoing the multiple upgrades at its disposal, this baby can actually dominate a map when used with the proper support units.

Possible Upgrades

  • Tech 2 Engineering Suite: Speeds up the ACU's building speed
  • Damage Stabilization System: Speeds up ACU repairs
  • Heavy Anti-Matter Cannon: An upgrade to the Anti-Matter Cannon, this increases the ACU's damage output
  • Tactical Nuclear Missile Launcher: This gives your ACU a short-range tactical nuke. What else do you need to know?
  • Personal Shield: Creates a shield around the ACU. Once it takes a certain amount of damage, you have to wait for it to recharge.
  • Personal Teleporter: This teleports your ACU across several miles. This eats up a lot of juice.
  • Shoulder Pod: Acts as a secondary engineer, assisting the ACU with whatever it is building or repairing

  • Tier 4 units

Atlantis - Image 1 Submersible Aircraft Carrier
    Codename: Atlantis

This little beauty can transport a fleet of aircraft across great distances, all the while hiding the threat from your enemies. The Atlantis can be used for Gunship support when deploying to an enemy's base. It works best sneaking in from behind and gutting the opposition's base from within.

    MAVOR - Image 1Strategic Artillery

    Codename: Mavor

Say hello to my little friend. This artillery piece is used for precise long range strikes. The damage output is excellent and stoppage power is impressive for the Mavor. However, it takes a lot of time to build this, but when you do, your opponents had better be looking for some cover.

    Fatboy - Image 1Mobile Factory

    Codename: Fatboy

This tank carries armor and firepower equivalent to a standard UEF Battleship. However, it can create its own small army to assist it. One or two of these hidden behind enemy line spells defeat for the opposition.

These behemoths will win battles, but getting to the point where you can build them, that's another story.
Still, it seems that size does matter.
