CS Nation's Site Director has revealed this sad fact regarding the PC version of Modern Warfare 2 (also on Xbox 360, PS3): Unless you are the host, your Ping sucks, basically.

Apparently, looks are truly deceiving. The next time you see three bars out of your ping, don't go sighing in relief just yet. That actually means your ping is the pits.

Said Zips, the Site Director:

The sad truth? You might wanna pound a few beers before you read this:

• The host is immediately obvious, he's the guy with 0-20 ping (full green).

• I usually connect with about 101-200+ms.

• Most people are connected at 200+ms (3 or less bars on normal cfg settings).

• On regular cfg settings, 4 bars means up to 0-100 ping, 3 bars 101-200, 2 bars 201-300, 1 bar is 301+.

If you go into a server and everyone's ping appears to be good, but there's still a lot of apparent lag and rubber-banding going on, this may be the reason why.

Here's what the Host Advantage looks like:

Modern Warfare 2 PC - Image 1

If you want an honest reflection of your ping, you might want to try this:

  • Navigate to the folder: 'program filessteamsteamappscommoncall of duty modern warfare 2players' and open the file config_mp.cfg
  • Change scoresping_interval from 100 to 20, and maxbars from 4 to 10 (10 is the max).
  • This means that each of the 10 bars represents 20ms, with full green being 20ms or lower, and 1 red being 200ms or higher.

 » Well...

Isn't this obvious. That's basically what you get without dedicated servers.

Welcome to the console internet world PC.

 » lol IW

as ive said before MW2 release , removing Dedicated servers is a big mistake , and P2P match making is just retarded , we have a super fast servers who can go to 1000 gb/s and IW removed it , but IW haveent the choice yes , MW2 is devloped for PS3 and XBOX 360 then ported to PC , thats why many key features lack from the core source of MW2 ,

1 - we dont have lean control
2 - and no console
3 - and no mods system
4 - and dedicated servers

but actualy i think COD4 players should stay in COD4 , bcz MW2 PC have alot of glitche and level design problems .

COD now is just like Rainbow six vegas , so you can imagine .

 » OMG!

Now since you put it this way...

And NO LEAN! I played all CoD's on the PC until my computer decided to take a crap on me and had to move my gaming to the PS3. And LEANING was one of the biggest advantages on the PC.

Man but all those other downgrades... I really want to know what IW was thinking....

Sorry fellow PC players, but this is just bad and getting worse....

 » .

they did think only about money , since Console DLC is good extra money for the company , but dont wory, hardcore gamers play games not for GFX and that not the case on MW2 , but play games for game play , many players are playing now CS and have good skils , so we COD players we will stick on COD4 . we dont need a rainbow six vegas .

this game hase been over holywooded , every mission you got betrayed , maybe bcz they hear people speaking about the 1st scene on COD4 , but MW2 story is crap .

and you have to clear steath mission without Leaning , if only sneak hear this .

 » o rly?

If it WAS about money, wouldn't IW/Activision want as many PC gamers buying it as possible?

   Re: vizard00 - 5 days ago
 » no

the fact that the game is devloped for consoles that poof how IW seek money , IW knew that MW2 is shi**t and thats why ,

- we didnt have DEMO , they said demo cost money and they donate 1 milion $ recently
- since they noticed how the game is poor so marketing machine started , ADS , they paid magazines for good reviews , notice how players give the game 1pts and MAGS give it 100pts

now we will have a next COD MW3 next year , bad too , but with 1000s of ads and 100pts from corupted MAGS like
1 - gamespot
2 - videogamer
3 - IGN
4 - Edge Magazine

and many more

and kids will jump on it ,
seems good deal for me

remember

need for speed politics ( dead game now )
