Here's something we don't see everyday - a closer look at how music for videogames are made, specifically the music of the wartime FPS Turning Point: Fall of Liberty for the Microsoft Xbox 360, Sony PlayStation 3, and PC. Let's sit back and relax as we find out just how the guys behind the game's epic soundtrack made the choice to stay away from the current norm of wartime FPS music (that is, music with lots of trumpets).
So why the deviation? Michael Giacchino, the composer of the soundtrack for Codemasters' Turning Point: Fall of Liberty, explains that he wanted the game's soundtrack to signify a drastically different period for America - how it's being invaded, and how the good guys are now fighting for their very own survival, and not anyone else's. He wanted the player to experience the raw intensity and fear of the situation. This in itself is easy to connect with, visually, since in the game we see the Statue of Liberty blasted into pieces, and the Empire State Building in shambles. While it may seem like a drastic change, it works quite well with the game's overall tone. After all, nothing's nastier than having your country getting invaded - you have to keep the adrenalin pumping by all means necessary, or it's game over. Enjoy the video! |

Codemasters's Turning Point: Fall of Liberty (Games for Windows, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360) may be yet another WWII-era shooter, but that's where it breaks similarities with the recycled concept. Planting its roots in an alternative world, Fall of Liberty takes players through a besieged New York City in an effort to regain freedom lost. New screenshots surfaced just a few days ago on GameSpy, and these seven have been added to the game's current media assets. Though these screens may remind you much of Red Alert 2's Soviet invasion of the Big Apple, the game also borrows the 'fight for liberation' concept from Eidos Interactive's Freedom Fighters - a good game in its own right. Codemasters hopes to see this Unreal Engine 3 game hit your favorite gaming platform by next year, after announcing that it will be delayed until the first quarter of 2008. We'll just have to see how it'll turn out once it hits the shelves. There's a few more screenshots waiting for you at the full article. Video game news website IGN reports that Codemasters' multiplatform alternate-history shooter Turning Point: Fall of Liberty (Games for Windows, PlayStation3, Xbox 360) has been pushed back to a 2008 release. If you guys remember, Codemasters earlier sent 'round a press release announcing that Turning Point: Fall of Liberty, which was earlier slated for a November 2007 release, will be among the titles it will showcase at this year's Games Convention at Leipzig. The press release noted that the Xbox 360 version of the game will be up on display. IGN contacted Sam Cordier, Codemasters' global communications manager, and got the following explanation: In order for Turning Point to fully realise its epic vision, a further investment in the game's development period is being made and the title is now scheduled to ship in early 2008. Turning Point: Fall of Liberty is currently still under development at Spark Unlimited. |

Not much can be said about Turning Point: Fall of Liberty (Xbox 360, PS3, PC), but all that we know so far are good things. When the Nazi wins World War II and invades the big apple, some heroes are bound to take arms - that's the premise of Codemasters' latest FPS game in development.
What we have here is a short but sweet trailer, featuring 1950s New York in a chaotic state full of explosions, bomber aircrafts, and Nazi soldiers. Our hero is an average Joe, forced to take arms just to survive. He gets into all kinda of sticky situations, like hanging on a pillar atop a skyscraper or being surrounded by angry Nazi shooting at him. Sounds like your average WWII fare with a twist? Check this video out, you might be surprised: |
