SimCity Societies UFO - Image 1

Ever get tired of destroying your flourishing city in the same ways over and over? The next patch Electronic Arts and Tilted Mill will dish out should put a smile on your face, because the extraterrestrials are coming to SimCity Societies. Aside from performance upgrades and new features that promise to make management of a city much easier, the next update is going to let the UFOs loose.

In form of flying saucers, aliens can soon be summoned if you want some serious destruction. An attack from one of these invaders is enough to destroy its target and other structures nearby. The patch will also add event tracking buttons that provide easy access to buildings under fire and the closest fire station available to send help, so you can try to save your people when the strangers lay siege.

Thankfully, part of EA's patch is set to address performance issues and let you enjoy your burning city with better frame rates. Due to "texture streaming," only low-resolution textures will be kept in memory while hi-res textures just come into play when needed. EA explained it's going for "much more conservative memory usage," which also involves "dumb-down" AI applied when cities grow too big. It is also said that Vista machines will benefit the most from these upgrades.

Another nifty addition is the "auto-cast" feature which makes things a lot easier by allowing buildings to automatically trigger skills when ready. For more details on SimCity Societies' upcoming patch, click on the "via" link below.
