According to Bill Gates, Microsoft is going to roll out the next version of their Windows operating system about a year ahead of schedule. Codenamed Windows 7, the upcoming OS is expected to be launched sometime next year, only two years after the launching of Windows Vista instead of the scheduled three-year interval. However, Microsoft's spokesperson said that it is natural for them to introduce a test version of a new operating system a year ahead of its official launch. Gates happened to mention about the impending arrival of Windows 7 during a corporate philanthropy seminar that took place in Inter-American Development Bank in Miami, where we was asked about Vista's successor. Windows 7, formerly known as Vienna, was meant to greatly improve existing features in their current operating systems, such as Live Services. Gates intends to provide a functionality through Live Services where users can still use their own desktop settings whatever PC they're using, whether its a public computer or someone else's PC. |

» Vista failed miserably
The adoption rate of Vista was no where near what they had anticipated for, so it's no surprise that they're going to release a new OS already. Especially with the increasing success of the Macs and Linux.

» they better not
what they need to do is make vista more stable. if they want to sell more vista software they better sell if for a lot cheaper. i would be pissed if they release a new windows that needs new hardware because if it does i would not use it. i still think they should sale vista premium for 80 bucks with taxes because it way over priced for a unstable os. they should also make 64 standard and stop using 32.

» well,
i would assume it wont be a completely new OS. i think it will be something like mac goes from tiger to leopard. that would make more sense.

» ouch indeed
its only been 2 months.
takes 7 seconds to play a friggin mp3.
IE use stops it from responding more than xp.
Changing theme to crappy classic hardly improves performance.
Where the hell does all the resourses snd power go? At least you got the attention MS.

Isn't this a Microsoft typical move release another product before the one you have is working fully functional. What a bunch of crap.

I'd just like to add if Mac ever became a major player in Gaming that would be the end of Microsoft.

» Microsoft?
Or not. Your average PC gamer is not exactly thrilled by the concept of paying a 300% premium on 'average' PC hardware because it has an apple sticker.

Vista graphics performance sucks compared to XP. Its like >20% slower. Imagine that in Frames Per Second. Its noticeable performance drop if you play 1 game and then switch to Vista. You will see the difference. That's OK because if you have DirectX 9 video card you can stay with Windows XP and everything will be alright.
Its not the same for those lucky guys that own DirectX 10 video card and want to enjoy its extras. Microsoft didn't released DirectX 10 for XP. You are f*cked by Microsoft (again).
If you already got your Vista for some $$$$$ prepare some more $$$$ because Microsoft is preparing next Windows for you.
About Apples. Excuse me but for the money of some decent Apple I will buy MONSTER GAMING PC with everything you could imagine. Believe me but it will have RAID storage SLI video card minimum 4GB ram, huge monitor, etc. and huge software support.
Apple moved to x86 architecture, their OS is now Linux-alike. They are going to the right way - Not we if we switch to Apple.
so hmm.. lets imagine for a second that apple are right for going with linux and x86. If that's the future then:
x86 + Linux = maybe that's the way to go?!?!
OpenGL is fast. There are already some game titles that run perfect on linux. It just need some support from the developers.
And... hell its F R E E. Major difference compared to Microsoft/Apple.
You can install Linux and test it for free and if you don't like then delete it, prepare some $$$ and go Microsoft/Apple way. If you like it then you can continue using it forever for free. That's not some trail period. (My Windows 2008 trail expires in 1 day :( ) "Please activate" doh.
For all the features that linux have you should buy Windows Server to get them and that means A LOTS OF MONEY.
Linux is also very flexible. It can even fit in 1 floppy disk even. Depends what you need it to do. It can fit and run from your USB stick, CD, CompactFlash card or whatever.
Also security matters most:
"With Vista breached, Linux remains unbeaten in hacking contest"
http://www.infoworld.com/article/08/03/31/Linux-unbeaten-in-hacking-contest_1.html
How this sounds to you? Does it ring a bell? OSes that are not open source will always have more vulnerabilities than open source one, because Microsoft/Apple have to fix them alone(if they catch them). Its not like the whole linux community looking at the code.
Also linux is gaining big popularity in the mobile world. Many devices are running linux os or Google Andriod even. That's phones, network devices, single board computers and many more. you can check www.linuxdevices.com to see for yourself.
That were some thoughts. I hope I didn't bored you to death. Its just something you can think about.
