This next one is to clarify the matter behind upcoming video game Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway (Xbox 360, PC, PlayStation 3). A couple of days ago, it was announced that the said title will not be able to make its scheduled release date. For some reasons, some players speculated that the game was cancelled altogether. We would like to reiterate that Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway is still under development over at the studios of Gearbox Software. To make things a bit clearer, the developer's marketing manager Tatum Tippet said the following: Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway is in full force development mode. And though there is a rumor surfacing out there, the folks here at Gearbox are still working hard and the game has not been cancelled. Look for the release in Q4 - early '08. There you have it, straight from Gearbox Software itself. On another note, publisher Ubisoft reported that Hell's Highway is about to reach the beta testing stage. There's some bad news and good news for World War II shooter fans waiting for the release of Gearbox and Ubisoft's Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway (PC, Xbox 360, PS3): the bad news is that the game will forgo its scheduled holiday release 'til next year. But the good news? The beta for Hell's Highway is close at hand.Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway was supposed to be out just in time for the holidays, but a Gearbox representative said that they could not promise any specific dates with regards to the game's release. Shortly after, however, Ubisoft commented and said that the game will be out sometime between January to March next year. But on the brighter side, the developers are about to reach a crucial stage. "We're rapidly approaching Beta status on Hell's Highway," said Ubisoft's representative. We just couldn't wait ourselves, not when we're talking about a game as good as the Brothers in Arms franchise. More info abound the highly-anticipated Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC in this video interview with Executive Producer Randy Pitchford. In it, we learn more about how much of the video game was painstakingly modeled to reflect their real-life counterparts, what Hell's Highway actually is, and see just how fast and frantic the actual gunfights are in-game.
Besides the backstory, the part that really got our attention was the game's squad combat mechanic forming a pretty large chunk of the game. Players will be able to lead multiple squads and order them around. We've all seen this sort of mechanic before in other shooters, but the actual activity of doing so felt clunky at best, moreso when there's a firefight going on. If you're worried about that, then watch closely at the gameplay bits. You'll notice that the actual commanding is fast, smooth, and effortless - and this, during a full-on enemy confrontation. There's also some other stuff that's to take note of, namely how sweet everything looks. From the grenade explosions to the completely destructible environments, Ubisoft's Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway is definitely a title to watch out for as it marches on towards its Holiday 2007 release. Gearbox Software founder Randy Pitchford has announced that the press blackout for the game Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway is over. This is good news for fans of the game who have been dying to find out more details about it. He said that the game is not only worth the wait but that it also "will be the best WW2 action game ever released." Pitchford has been setting this up for a couple of months now, he gave the details of it in his post on the GBX forums. Colonel Antal and I are spending the entire month at press events meeting with journalists from all over the world. By the end of May, news and information should start trickling out. Then, the trickle will turn into a stream. I'm going to be on the road pretty much non-stop until the last week of May. That's all well and good and a lot of the fans have been information-starved for about a year now. Questions have already been posted such as "when will it be released?" or "Will it have realistic gun-sounds?" have already been asked. Slated for the Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and the PC, let's wait and see if this game is really "worth the wait". |
