September 25 is a big day for Halo fans on the Xbox 360, but on the PC scene it's the new Company of Heroes expansion that stole the show. Relic Entertainment's Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts just shipped to retails stores worldwide, under THQ's plans for an early release. And consecutively, two patches were dished out by Relic Entertainment, offering owners of the original game and the pseudo-expansion options to upgrade their copies and allow multiplayer compatibility. Owners of the original game get the heavier end of the update which pushes Company of Heroes up to version 2.101 at a cost of 1.75 GB of downloaded data. Aside from getting the Commonwealth (the British 2nd Army woot!) and Panzer Elite armies (content exclusive to Opposing Fronts), immediate balancing changes were made to several units in the game. Connectivity issues were also addressed, and if the multiplayer lobby feels different, it's because it has been polished. Patch change list available at the full article! |

For those of us eagerly anticipating to get our hands on a copy of the gorily-violent Conan (PS3, Xbox 360, Wii) and the groundbreaking RTS title, Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts, Christmas has indeed come a few months early. THQ has decided to release both titles ahead of schedule, which means that we'll all be knee-deep in some delicious hack-and-slash action and tactical warfighting come late September of this year. A little backgrounder on both games: Nihilistic Software' Conan puts you in the shoes of Robert E. Howard's musclebound machine of Cimmerian rage in a side-scrolling, third person adventure of blood and bisected bodies. Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts, on the other hand, is the standalone expansion to the critically-acclaimed to the World War II RTS Company of Heroes, and has you fighting one of the most brutal campaigns ever fought. Not bad for an early Christmas present, THQ, not bad indeed. Updates as we get them! |

Game publisher THQ and Chinese gaming firm Shanda have forged an alliance to bring an online-only version of the hit RTS title, Company of Heroes, to Mainland China, sharing responsibilities and benefits in the process. The game is currently under development by the Relic team and is set to contain the same World War II action that the original showed off. Details have not yet been released as to how subscription will work out. Company of Heroes was released on the PC in the United States in September of last year. A new stand-alone title distinct from the original and online version is also in the works. Brian Farrell, THQ's CEO and President said in a press release "this new deal is a significant milestone for THQ as it supports two significant growth drivers for the company - building our product offering across Asia and expanding into new digital revenue streams." Tranquiao Chen, Shanda's CEO, said that he expects the partnership to prosper as China is known to be a big PC gaming and online gaming country. The genres and platforms have proven successful with other games and the two firms hope to capitalize on the opportunity. |

THQ has just announced that Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts for PCs will be launched this fall. The sequel to Company of Heroes, this new RTS being developed by Relic Entertainment, allows players to participate in some of the biggest battles in WWII history.Bob Aniello, the senior vice president of worldwide marketing at THQ, spoke about the release. Company of Heroes smashed preconceptions of what an RTS game could and should be, earning dozens of industry awards and the highest review score average of any RTS title in the last decade. He added that "Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts is an epic new chapter in this series, and we are excited to bring this top-tier cinematic RTS to consumers worldwide." Highlights of the game include leading the British 2nd Army in the liberation of Caen, France. For those who would rather command the Germans, you can take control of the Panzer Elite in repelling the largest airborne invasion in history. New multiplayer modes have also been added to further the game's replayability. The game is fully compatible with the original Company of Heroes, upping the playable armies to four. Tarrnie Williams, the general manager of Relic Entertainment, is pretty excited about the game and its new features. He said that "In Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts players will experience fast-paced dynamic tactics like never before, in two of the most brutal World War II campaigns ever fought."
