If not, well then, you better get going. Believe us when we say you need to see Hayden and his glaive in action to fully appreciate and understand their dynamics.

hayden tennoAccording to a recent news article by 3D Gamers, Digital Extremes has announced that the development of the PC version of Dark Sector has been stopped. The statement was made after some people noted the absence of the PCCD logo on the official site and the D3Publisher's silence about the issue.

This is a bit of a shocker especially for those awaiting the PC version of the game, but hey, at least not all of the versions will be cancelled. Maybe the devs didn't need to be distracted from the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions?

Dark Sector, a sci-fi 3D game running on the "Sector Engine", is set for release on the mentioned next-gen consoles on Q3. Hayden Tenno and the cool looking glaive that grows back would soon be gracing the consoles in a few months.

concept art for Haden TennoCurrently under development in the Digital Extremes lab is the upcoming shooter Dark Sector (PC, PS3, Xbox360), where we follow Haden Tenno as he seeks out the sinister scientists responsible for unleashing the monstrous virus plaguing the city.

As you guys have probably seen from the screens and the game's teaser trailer, one of the features that the game boasts of is the visual quality of Dark Sector and the emphasis that the devs put on making the graphics more realistic.

So anyway, it's a good thing we were able to get hold of some concept artworks for the game, that way we can see how the characters look like up close, as well as the weapons they wield.

Some of you guys have been saying that Dark Sector really seems like a Resident Evil rip-off, what with the virus element and the tidbit that the hero himself acquires the virus. But a rather interesting element of Dark Sector is Haden's Familial Dysautonmia -- a genetic defect that makes him unable to feel pain. In Potterspeak, Haden would be rightly dubbed as "the boy who lived" because he's the sole being who remained unaffected by the virus.

If you've been reading up on the game, you probably know all this stuff already, so why don't we just get to the part where I bring you the screens, eh? Alrighty then, here's a buncha screens AND concept art for you to feast your eyes on while you wait for the game's release next year.

More screens and concept art await in the full article!

Same Dark Sector?

We all know there's sure been some changes in Digital Extremes' Dark Sector. What we weren't prepared for was the gravity of these changes. Gamespot got a chance at a brief demo of the game and found that "it's not the game we were expecting based on our first look way back when." Hmmm... if that isn't indication enough for you of how much the game's changed, then we don't know what is.

Anyway, they've described the setting as something that's slightly more mundane. So don't expect a Metal Gear-ish futuristic corridors or whatnot in this version. According to DE, it's "to underscore the unusual and exceptional nature of the games new main character, Hayden Tenno."

This Hayden guy, he's not just some character moving about in the game with a mission to complete. Like any real person, with a compact identity, he's got issues, too. Big time. Of course, you'd also have your own set of issues if you've been exposed to some toxic goop, which has mutated your arm into some lethal three-bladed flying weapon, wouldn't you? Oh, and you'd want to give it a name, too. Like, glaive.

Well, those sure are but some of the changes landmarked in this game. And although it may turn out to be a far cry from its 2004 version, maybe that's all for good, as well. So far, the demo seems to make quite an impression on those who have gotten to try it out. As to whether or not it will live up to those impressions, we'll have to wait and see when it comes out in late 2007.

Remember in our earlier articles we were saying that details on Digital Extremes' shooter, Dark Sector (PS3 and Xbox360), were really scarce? Well, D3 Publisher must have noticed this too 'cuz there's been an outpour of game details and goodies lately!

We have new images, an interview with Steve Sinclair, and a vid where you get to see Haden Tenno in action. But just in case you weren't able to catch any of those, don't fret because here we have yet another batch of spanking new screens! Now, there have been different feedback about the game, some are saying that it's a Resident Evil rip-off, while some are just plain psyched as we are about the game.

Oh, and before we forget, in addition to these new screens, the teaser site for the game is now also up and running! Darksector.com dons downloadable wallpapers, the game trailer, and the developer blog where you can check out the latest updates on what's been happening with regards to game development. But hey, if you're too busy to go through the dev blog, you can always opt to check QJ for more game updates. Hahaha. Dark Sector is slated for release Fall 2007 for the Xbox360, PS3, and PC.
