Space Siege - Image 1As of press time, "soon" is ticking at T-minus 3 days and 16 hours. Gas Powered Games' Dungeon Siege-gone-zero gravity has been silent as of late in the press, but it seems that the developers have not been slacking in Space Siege's development. In a few days, we'll be able to see whether the time spent since the last gameplay montage has improved, and what the sci-fi action RPG has to offer us. On ot the full story for just a little more.

Gas Powered Games' Supreme Commander - Image 1

It looks like Chris Taylor and his army at Gas Powered Games were keeping another secret, and if it weren't for a recently conducted interview, the mind behind THQ's Supreme Commander wouldn't have revealed the ultimate real-time strategy title as another surprise. Though it was revealed that Supreme Commander would probably arrive on Microsoft's Xbox 360 first, there is also hope that Gas Powered Games could deliver it to the Sony PlayStation 3.

"You've almost made me confess that we're working on it... No, actually you have. That's good. I like that. This is a secret I want to share," said Taylor, after expounding on Gas Powered Games' efforts to create a friendly interface for console strategists. What's more is that the previously unveiled Space Siege, a sci-fi rehash of Dungeon Siege (think Rebelmind Games' Space Hack or Silverback Entertainment's Harbinger), will also come with console-friendly versions next year.

Currently, Taylor views the Microsoft Xbox 360 as the current "platform of choice" for pushing PC games out to consoles, because of the least amount of finances involved in development. He still remains hopeful that Sony PlayStation 3 versions will soon follow, due to added developer feedback and a larger install base in the near future.

News on whether the stand-alone expansion Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance will also hit consoles or not, or if a Space Siege Nintendo Wii version will be considered has yet to surface. There are speculations, however, that this move may be the result of THQ trying to cash in on its current published intellectual properties after witnessing a lackluster Q2 financial performance.

Sega - Image 1

Sega recently announced the development of Space Siege, an action RPG that happens to be a "spiritual successor" to the Dungeon Siege series. This time, however, the story is set in the far flung reaches of space.

In Space Siege, Earth is lost to an alien attack, and the last few survivors cast themselves out among the stars in colony ships. Players are put in the shoes of Seth Walker, a cybernetics engineer thrust into the position to become humanity's savior.

As the story unfolds, Seth is given the choice to sacrifice bits of his humanity to receive cybernetic upgrades which would help him achieve his goals. Would he be willing to trade away his humanity to help save the human race? Or would he keep his flesh and blood intact and survive on pure ingenuity? Each choice goes beyond the cosmetic and actually affects the world around it.

Aside from an intense single player mode, Space Siege would also offer a co-op multiplayer which allows up to four players to experience a totally unique game. This speaks volumes as to the replayability of the game as each session allows the players to create and fashion their own unique mission structures.

Developing the game is Chris Taylor and his team from Gas Powered Games, the same folks who worked on the Total Annihilation, Dungeon Siege, and Supreme Commander titles. Sega officials promise that Space Siege would be a "compelling and innovative successor to the very popular Dungeon Siege franchise.”

Space Siege will be featured on the cover of PC Gamer Magazine's September 2007 issue. Check out your local newsstands and subscription lists to get the low-down on this potentially great game.
