While Beijing has been transformed to house an Olympic city - making the latter a city within a city - Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games makes serious headway into the casual gaming market. Or maybe it's just in the UK, where SEGA's joint Olympics game with Nintendo holds top spot for another week running.

: Germany favors BioShock, Spain loves DS games - Image 1Here's a little trivia for you: if you've ever wondered what gamers from other parts of the world are playing the most, GfK International, the all-encompassing umbrella of market research divisions like Gfk Australia, has sent in recently updated lists of top ten games in Spain and Germany.

First up is Nintendo DS-lovin' Spain, whose top four games all cater to Nintendo's handheld. That's Pokemon: Diamond, THQ's Ratatouille, Dr. Kawashima's More Brain Training, and Pokemon: Pearl in order from first to fourth. The top ten games list is half-occupied by Nintendo DS titles, while three of the five games are published by Nintendo.

In the German side, 2K Games' BioShock rules the charts, with the PC version (no surprise there) taking top spot. The Xbox 360 version sits just outside of the top five at number six. In similar fashion to Spain, Germany also revels in Nintendo DS games, with both Pokemon titles noted (Diamond still leads Pearl), plus two Nintendo Wii titles to boot. Blizzard's World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade joins BioShock as the only two PC games to penetrate the Nintendo-dominated charts.

Read the full article for a quick list of the top ten games in Germany and Spain.

Ubisoft's Surf's Up, Microsoft's Blue Dragon, and Ubisoft's Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Warfighter 2 closes the lower three of the top ten, from eighth place onwards in that order. In quick summary, that would be:

Looking back to Chart Track's statistics for the first week of July, Electronic Arts' Harry Potter & The Order of the Phoenix (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PSP, DS, Wii, PC, mobile) stays on top of the all-platforms charts for the second week in a row, while UK gamers flex their nerve cells with Nintendo's More Brain Training from Dr. Kawashima which sticks to a solid second.

Activision's Shrek The Third still keeps to the third spot the week ending July 7, though Take-Two's The Darkness dips two spaces to fourth. Keeping close to another fellow horror game, Capcom's Resident Evil 4 haunts at fifth place, while happily tailing behind with a Wiimote is Wii Play from Nintendo - still strong in the charts after re-entering the top ten.

Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End slips to ninth place from eighth (giving new meaning to nine pieces of eight, we reckon), while Dr. Kawashima's Brain Training from Nintendo re-enters the charts and continues to twist noggins at closing number 10.
