We posted an article one month ago that invited readers to do a little thought exercise. Here's what we said: "On
the 5th of November we're going to post an article or two about video
games, gadgets, technology, and general geekness ... the things about
video gaming and technology that ought not be forgotten."So here's our list of some video gaming and technology moments worth remembering. Hope this gets you thinking (and feeling nostalgic too!). And we look forward to your comments (and arguments). What do you remember and wish that the world will never forget? |

A bit of bad news for Google Video users: the media you rented or bought from the web giant's online store will no longer be viewable after the site is shut down by the parent company.Google said there will be no refunds for any of the transactions, but compensation will come in the form of credits in Google Checkout, the company's online paying service. The decision to shut the site down came after top officials decided that the Google Video service has become irrelevant due to the success of YouTube, which it also owns and uses to sell videos. The move was branded as a big mistake by analyst David Card of Jupiter. He also added that the shutdown and the no-refund policy are making consumers more wary of digital media purchases. "We've seen a physical format-device combo go out of manufacture before: wax cylinders, 8-tracks," says Card. "But can you think of any consumer-purchased medium that actually becomes unusable while there are players that still work?" |

Continuing a lineage of musical showcasing for artists such as Chamillionaire, Good Charlotte, and OK GO, EA Sports' Madden NFL 08 (PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, PSP, DS) musical tracks will sport a collection of debuting musical talent which includes Airbourne, The Bravery, Sum 41, The Hives, in addition to Ozzy Osbourne as previously announced. "Radio is adding songs based on a band’s inclusion in the game. Video channels are creating their playlists based on the soundtrack. Simply put, Madden moves music forward," said Electronic Arts' music and marketing exec, Steve Schnur. He claims that the new soundtrack is the series' "most daring and effective mix of artists ever." It is the objective of the Madden NFL soundtrack to serve as a medium of providing exposure to new artists, while offering established artists to achieve a whole new level of exposure and experience in the industry. Electronic Arts' also plans live performances and events featuring the artists of the soundtracks, soon to be announced within the summer. Terra: Formationsis obviously out to conquer the universe, and this futuristic FPS/RTS/RPG title will most definitely give you some tough challenge to crack. Set in the year 2157, man has abandoned dried up, good ol' planet Earth and has jumped ship to one of Jupiter's moon called "Europa". But of course, they are not alone. Basically, the thrust of the game is for you to join the elite army force tasked with the reshaping of the environments of those worlds deemed not yet ready for habitation. Of course, as man is new in the neighborhood, they must be able to develop their new planet in order to make it more suited for their needs. But bugs are there, and, well, they don't really like the company. Nobody really likes intrusion in their own space, right? So what you can expect from that is a fight for domination and, ultimately, survival. There are four classes of characters for you to interact with and learn from: the Soldier faction, the Engineer class, the Researcher class, and the Commander class. The Soldier faction is tasked to provide you with the experience of the kind of action you'd typically find in a traditional FPS game. If you don the Engineer suit, meanwhile, you'll be entrusted with the development and construction of the facilities. Of course, as you are new in the area, some good researcher will most certainly take you a long way. So, the Researcher class is there to help you explore the new world, as well as gain knowledge on the tools and development of technology. And as leadership is primordial in running a new world, the Commander class is there to ensure that things are in order, paving the way for a more stable future. Terra: Formations is said to be ported to the Xbox 360 and the PC, with a yet unannounced 2007 release date. Just keep it posted here for more updates. In the meantime, a world-full of screenshots await you over at the Full Article, so check them out. |
