Owners of Capcom's Lost Planet (Xbox 360, PC), may want to watch out for next week, as the company reports that a new series of game downloadables will be cropping up. For the PC gamers in particular, expect an automatic patch to kick in this August 16, which will carry specialized DirectX 10 Geometry Shaders. This update is expected to enhance DirectX 10 capabilities, including visual effects like depth of field effects, motion blur, and fur shading.

The second part of the patch is support for a new chat system in Lost Planet PC's multiplayer mode. This feature will carry four general messages to be used to communicate with other players in the lobby, in-game, and result screens. Here's a shortlist :
  • Lost Planet screenshot - Image 1Lobby
    • Let’s go.
    • Hold on a sec.
    • It’s nice to meet you.
    • Roger!
  • In-game
    • Thank you.
    • I’m sorry.
    • You’ve gotta hold’em off!
    • Roger!
  • Result Screen
    • Let’s go.
    • Thank you.
    • What do we do now?
    • Thanks.
Last on the list is Lost Planet PC's Map Pack 2, which will carry Battleground, Lost Technology, Ruins, and Ice Drop. These maps were originally part of Lost Planet's Packs 2 and 3 for the Xbox 360, with their PC port now being handed out for free.

For the Xbox 360-based owners, good news comes with the announcement that your Map Pack 3 (Lost Technology, Ruins, and Ice Drop) will be available for free. And as previously reported, Map Packs 1 and 2 will also be free. All three packs are available on Xbox Live at the same time as the PC updates (August 16) - just be sure to have ample storage space to hold them all. Also expect an update to improve connectivity to be released in the near future.

Red Orchestra - Image 1

Big things are coming for FPS title Red Orchestra. At least that's what developer Tripwire Interactive has recently revealed on the official Red Orchestra website.

The update will include a new map pack that will feature over ten levels. The map pack will showcase the best maps out of all the entries submitted for the recent Red Orchestra mapping contest. The contest-winning map Smolensk Stalemate will be one of the highlights of the map pack, along with Leningrad, Berezina, and others.

For those who love playing multiplayer games, there's also a new engine update that could effectively double the current player limit. The update will "enable high end servers to increase the player counts far beyond the current 32 player limit - up to 64 if you have a really powerful server!"

Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 closed multiplayer beta testing begins this April - Image 1In a recent announcement that will have fans of Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 (GRAW2) dancing with joy, Ubisoft has declared that the closed multiplayer beta sign up will be kicking off in a few months. Yup, this means that those who have been waiting for their chance to try the specially-developed version of the game for the PC will finally get a chance to do so.

Gamers who are lucky enough to get in the closed beta will be able to try CALAVERA. It's a special map for the PC version of the game (Xbox 360 owners will just have to hope for it's addition in a future map pack). They will also be able to try the Recon versus Assault mode which will allow the players to be either a member of the Ghosts (stealth and ambushes all the way) or a Mexican Rebel (high-caliber weapons for all). Finally, there will be Team Deathmatch which in a nutshell means: two teams, one map, most kills win. Perhaps the simplest and one of the most fun modes, period.

The closed multiplayer beta sign up for GRAW2 starts early April 2007. For those who won't be able to make it, the full game is slated to be released this June. Regardless, you can find more details on the official GRAW2 site found in our read link.
