Fallout 3 - Image 1

Still wondering how the world will turn out if thermonuclear war ravaged the planet? Whether the only things left alive would be cockroaches and your fifth grade English teacher? Well, wonder no more because Bethesda gives us more details about their upcoming post-apocalyptic RPG, Fallout 3.

Gavin Carter, lead producer at Bethesda, tells us additional details about the combat system, as well as character customization and how dynamic the upcoming NPCs will be for Fallout 3.

Fans of the previous iterations will glad to hear that the new combat system will still roughly follow in the turn-based strategy flavor of its predecessors. Called the V.A.T.S. mode, it gives the player a more strategic feel to what was once presumed to be a real-time shooter. Carter said they wanted the combat to feel more than a "real-time with pause" system. Tactical decisions on what part of the opponent you specifically want to target to either cripple or outright kill is what makes the game still feel like a classic Fallout game.

Also, the customization of your character will be similar to Oblivion, however the stats on which your character is based on will run on a completely different level and much closer to the original game, with the old traits and perks options available once again.

Carter relates how the NPC interactions will be a lot more dynamic this time around as NPC will not be restricted to a specific pattern. Instead it will randomly interact with the available environment in a sort of "sandbox" type of system. And true to the flavor of Fallout, the whole open-ended behavior that you decide your character wants to follow will greatly affect how the game itself will run, with your decisions affecting the outcome of the story according to your play style.

Lastly, Carter said that the soundtrack for the game will be of a slightly discordant nature similar to Fallout 1 and Fallout 2. Battle music will also be played using percussions and some orchestral elements, while special places like dungeons will have their own set music to keep the players interested and focused on the action onscreen.

Hopefully, we'll get to see more of these in the coming months when Bethesda releases more info about the game itself. In the meantime we'll all be waiting expectantly for it's release for the PC, Xbox 360 and the PS3 near the end of this year.

Sega - Image 1

Sega recently announced the development of Space Siege, an action RPG that happens to be a "spiritual successor" to the Dungeon Siege series. This time, however, the story is set in the far flung reaches of space.

In Space Siege, Earth is lost to an alien attack, and the last few survivors cast themselves out among the stars in colony ships. Players are put in the shoes of Seth Walker, a cybernetics engineer thrust into the position to become humanity's savior.

As the story unfolds, Seth is given the choice to sacrifice bits of his humanity to receive cybernetic upgrades which would help him achieve his goals. Would he be willing to trade away his humanity to help save the human race? Or would he keep his flesh and blood intact and survive on pure ingenuity? Each choice goes beyond the cosmetic and actually affects the world around it.

Aside from an intense single player mode, Space Siege would also offer a co-op multiplayer which allows up to four players to experience a totally unique game. This speaks volumes as to the replayability of the game as each session allows the players to create and fashion their own unique mission structures.

Developing the game is Chris Taylor and his team from Gas Powered Games, the same folks who worked on the Total Annihilation, Dungeon Siege, and Supreme Commander titles. Sega officials promise that Space Siege would be a "compelling and innovative successor to the very popular Dungeon Siege franchise.”

Space Siege will be featured on the cover of PC Gamer Magazine's September 2007 issue. Check out your local newsstands and subscription lists to get the low-down on this potentially great game.

How are we supposed to hide without glowing goggles? - Image 1Splinter Cell has made its name as one of the best stealth-based action games there is. Shadows and dark corners have always been your best friends, but Splinter Cell: Conviction begs to differ. In an interview with UK site Pro-G, Ubisoft senior producer Mathieu Ferland revealed more about the series' major turn.

Gone are the days of hiding. Ferland defined stealth as "the art of going unnoticed," which means mingling with public is fine too. The "social stealth" philosophy will have Sam Fisher out of his cave and trying other tactics. Similar to the Hitman series, doing your actions while in disguise will play a major role. Using distractions will create safer routes to your objectives than just running, hoping not to be seen.

NPC numbers will reach more than 100 at times, so blending in could be a lot easier. Most areas are casual public places, like museums. Fortunately, Fisher won't be wearing glow-in-the-dark goggles.  Another cool feature is how your environment is very interactive. Sam will be able to pick up objects to use as weapons, or roadblocks to flee from enemies.

Controls are simplified to make sure the player won't be overwhelmed. "If I have a table, for example, I can pick it up and make and aggressive action, like hitting someone with it or pushing them away, or make a stealth action and hide under it to use it as a cover, so it is all contextual and that affects the accessibility of control," said Ferland

That's all for now. We'll keep you informed 'til the game reaches the shelves come Christmas for the PC and Xbox 360.

Silverfall - Image 1Atari announced today that Silverfall is now available at retail stores across North America at a suggested retail price of US$ 39.95. Developed by Monte Cristo Games, Silverfall is a dynamic 3D action RPG that thrusts players into a world torn between science and nature.

"Engaging, immersive and imaginative, Silverfall is a unique addition to the genre of role-playing games," said Stephen Baer, senior product manager, Atari, Inc. "Having been among the top five of GameSpot.com's 'Top 10 PC games' list for the last week, Silverfall is certainly a must-have for PC and RPG fans alike."

In Silverfall, gamers must choose between science and nature in order to save the principal city of Silverfall from total destruction. With the help of two NPC comapanions, players must take on quests and defeat hordes of opponents during their journey through the world of Nelwe. Decisions made during each quest will be key as choices impact storyline, environment and accumulation of skills.
