rawr! me a piratez! - Image 1The music industry has spoken out about the five British developers and publishers going after illegal file-sharers in the UK. What of the other players in the gaming industry? We have yet to hear any official word on the matter from other developers or publishers, but Peter Moore - in his personal capacity - has talked about it, and he'd have to agree... with the music industry.

piracy - Image 1British game developers have launched an all-out war against illegal file-sharers. They're not about to take piracy in the industry sitting down. But the music industry, another victim of the pirates, aren't backing them up on this cause. It's an apparent disagreement in approach and disposition.

Warhound screen - Image 1

Not too long ago, back in March, we found out that Warhound from Techland was 50% complete. Roughly four months have passed, and huge improvements have already surfaced. Looking at the newly released factsheet for this open-ended FPS tells us that the game is being tweaked into perfection.

It must be said: the amount of features that Warhound offers is overwhelming. We don't want you to miss every single detail, so here's what went through the press wire.

Unprecedented freedom of choice in an FPS:
  • Tackle missions in the order you choose, create your own path through each mission's objectives
  • Plan your tactics and equipment load-outs
  • Buy satellite photos, recon data and other intelligence about the battlefield situation
  • Pick a deployment time and location, then pay for the means of getting in and getting out
Character development:
  • Train your character in several skills, including climbing, repair, and weapons proficiency
  • Skills are earned and developed as in the real world - for ex., shooting ranges improve accuracy, running tracks and climbing walls boosts cover and movement skills
  • Develop and use skill specializations to gain advantages in combat; new skills offer fresh opportunities for advancement through the mercenary ranks, and new ways to complete missions
More on this after the jump!

Call of Juarez screenshots - Image 1

We're sure a lot of the guys have dreamt of becoming cowboys and gunslingers when they were young. For some of you who haven't quite gotten over it yet, here's a quick sneak peek at a Wild West video game title for the PC and Xbox 360, Call of Juarez.

The story revolves on two gunslingers, Billy Candle and Reverend Ray McCall. Billy gets wrongfully accused of murder and the reverend pursues him thinking for his brand of justice. Each character has his own style of gameplay and of course, different stories in Single player mode. Call of Juarez is a first person shooter (FPS) set in South Texas in the year 1882 when the west was wild with gun fights, noon duels, train and bank stick ups, and everything else the wild Wild West has to offer.

The long list of other features include:

  • Detailed Wild West reality – distinctive characters, environments and life-like authentic weaponry, including colts, rifles, whips and bows.
  • Professional dubbing with real dialects from the Wild West era by real Native American and Mexican actors.
  • Photorealistic picturesque sceneries of the US & Mexico borderland.
  • Fight your way through the Wild West, birthplace of the term "shooter", and see the world through the eyes of the hunter and the hunted.
  • Two unique characters with exclusive personalities and combat techniques. Ray is a retired gunslinger turned rough-and-tumble preacher. Billy, a sneaky and elusive man befriended and trained by Native Americans who is on the run.
  • Game play influenced by weather conditions and physical occurrences – for the first time ever, fire, wind and water become an integral element of the game. Put out fires with water or use kerosene to set objects ablaze.
  • Omnipresent interaction with environment interactivity – characters can displace, carry and throw any objects found in-game, and use them as weapons.
  • Striking horseback riding simulation in the picturesque Wild West setting.
Check out the rest of the features and the screenshots after the jump!

Well, ready for another dose of the wild, wild West? We've got another sneak peek at Call of Juarez for the Xbox360 and PC via a gameplay trailer.

Techland and Ubisoft's Call of Juarez will immerse players in the gun slinging days of cowboys, outlaws, and mercenaries. It takes us straight into the shoes of two protagonists, Billy Candle and Reverend Ray, who take different approaches to solving the same problems.

In this new trailer, we see how the Reverend cleanses a prairie full of baddies - by blasting them to high heavens. We'll also see the use of rifles and double six shooters, along with another look at Reverend Ray's Concentration mode. One part of the trailer that might be straight from "The Quick and The Dead."

Anyway, we don't have long to wait for Call of Juarez as it is slated for a mid-2007 release. Let's just hope we get an exact release date soon. In the meantime, check out the video. Enjoy!

Warhound - merc FPS from Techland coming to the PC and Xbox 360 - Image 1Mercs abound in this first-person shooter that entrusts the player with the fate of their chosen in-game character. Straight from the 25-man development team at Techland, Warhound will be arriving on the Xbox 360 and PC on Q4 of 2007. Adrian Sikora, after an interview with Arm Chair Empire, had plenty more to reveal about the game.

Now Sikora already discussed multiplayer and single player concepts in an interview before, where he revealed that the game's story was in the works for a multi-path ride to a climactic conclusion.

He also revealed that the player will be responsible for their character's development in-game, with the freedom to choose if they would go straight to combat or undergo training, manage missions and sort out top priority ones.

But exactly how would you undergo training? There are three disciplines that your character can hone his skills in: mountaineering, shooting, and engineering.

The full article awaits after the jump!

After loading up on a fact sheet and a trailer from the recently-concluded GDC, we now bring you an interview with Adrain Sikora, producer for Warhound by Techland. According to Sikora, there are about 25 people currently working on the game, give or take a few coming and going for other simultaneous projects.

That may not sound much, but it appears that development is going along just fine as he reveals that Warhound is in fact already 50% complete. Anyway, you guys already know that this is a mercenary-themed FPS. So what else is there in this game? Says Sikora,

We want the player to have as much freedom as possible, whenever he chooses his missions, weapons, plans his character's training or during combat. In the game, the player has to take care of the training and finances, and he has to secure new contracts. You'll have to watch your competitors and enemies closely, because they might come after you. Our script has multiple plot lines.

Hmmm... interesting, indeed. But there's more. While presently, they are keeping their goals practical, with only a single game ending in mind, the team is still open to the consideration of having alternative endings as well, provided that they still have enough time to work on them.

Tackling more the single-player campaign, Sikora explains that it's a matter of progression in the game, getting to the mercenary ranking in order to gain access to more rewarding missions. And the weapons? Well, they're still keeping it an open issue, but they're definitely adding new types and models.

But if you want a quick rundown, there's gonna be half-trucks, quads, APC's, tanks and choppers. Of course, the usual pistols, SMGs, sniper rifles, and rocket launchers will be making an appearance to make the game rock. As for the game's multiplayer bit, no need to worry cos there's definitely a lot of action stashed for you there.

We want to have classic modes, like deathmatch, team deathmatch, capture the flag and so on, with up to 32 players. We are also working on our own ranking system for online players, which will also allow you to create custom character classes. You'll also get to use skills and choose equipment just as you'd do in single player. There'll be vehicles in MP too.

Anyhow, only half the battle is done for the guys at Techland. In fact, they have yet to choose a publisher for Warhound. But they are definitely keen on keeping their Q4 deadline for the release. Until then, just keep it locked here for more details.

Yeah, so we have loads of FPS games in the market right now. But since it's a much-celebrated genre in the industry, surely you wouldn't mind making way for one more, right? And with the upcoming PC game Warhound (that's Xbox360-bound too), Techland is making sure that users won't just be comparing their game to Far Cry and/or Just Cause, and all the other FPS/TPS titles out there.

And to give users a glimpse of what's in store for them, Techland showed this trailer at the Game Developers Conference. The vid takes us through the general user interface, drifts through some of the game environments, and of course, gives us a glimpse of all the shootin' action that'll soon be exploding on your PCs and 360s. So don't let the FPS-playing community decide for you, hit play, check out all the action yourself, and you be the judge.
