Two years ago, Atari Europe was fortunately in the safe zone, despite the mother company's grim and disheartening financial report of Q2 2007. Back then, the problem was isolated only to the US offices, and the Atari branch was said to be unharmed by the restructuring overseas. Today, however, Atari Europe is no more, now having been officially acquired by Namco Bandai.

Aww, and I was so gearing up to see some Ghostbusters PSP action in E3! With a sudden turn of events (and to think it's so last minute, with only three weeks left before the actual event), Atari has announced that they're pulling out from this year's gaming event - and no, it's not really because of Swine Flu concerns.

Pipes and puzzles. Who would've thunk they'd go so well together? Well Empire Interactive apparently did, and that's why they're happy to announce that the modern Pipe Mania game has gone gold.

The music industry has spoken out about the five British developers and publishers going after illegal file-sharers in the UK. What of the other players in the gaming industry? We have yet to hear any official word on the matter from other developers or publishers, but Peter Moore - in his personal capacity - has talked about it, and he'd have to agree... with the music industry.

British game developers have launched an all-out war against illegal file-sharers. They're not about to take piracy in the industry sitting down. But the music industry, another victim of the pirates, aren't backing them up on this cause. It's an apparent disagreement in approach and disposition.

Plus we've got the PC version's official system requirements down pat, but we know that's just after you've decided to acquire another SecuROM-ified game. We're told through official means that Atari and Eden Games' Alone in the Dark for the PC will be coming with similarly robust digital rights management security as BioShock and Mass Effect, and like them, will require an online connection to play the game. The Deer Hunter series doesn't sound like what most hardcore gamers would be excited about. But some do give it a try, and after a short playthrough which ended in being a bear's next gourmet, you can be sure of that this game's no slacker. A new version of Deer Hunter is on the way, and once again it's Atari's responsibility to return to the series to the PC. But wait - what's this? Atari has announced an expansion pack for Neverwinter Nights 2, entitled Storm of Zehir. As it happens, Storm of Zehir will hearken back to some of the most memorable moments in PC RPG gaming, with a decidedly Baldur's Gate-like take on the Neverwinter Nights convention. One of Russia's most distinguished game developer and publisher, 1C company, has announced two new game projects that will be their first on the next generation consoles. The two games are based on Captain Blood novels and the successful IL-2 Sturmovik flight combat simulation series.  Both are now heading to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 (to North America with help), but even handhelds will feel some love as well.

This week welcomes the much-loved and much-awaited Metal Gear Solid 4 from Konami. No longer should we worry about broken street dates, because today it all becomes official.
