We're told through official means that Atari and Eden Games' Alone in the Dark for the PC will be coming with similarly robust digital rights management security as BioShock and Mass Effect, and like them, will require an online connection to play the game. The Deer Hunter series doesn't sound like what most hardcore gamers would be excited about. But some do give it a try, and after a short playthrough which ended in being a bear's next gourmet, you can be sure of that this game's no slacker. A new version of Deer Hunter is on the way, and once again it's Atari's responsibility to return to the series to the PC. But wait - what's this? Atari has announced an expansion pack for Neverwinter Nights 2, entitled Storm of Zehir. As it happens, Storm of Zehir will hearken back to some of the most memorable moments in PC RPG gaming, with a decidedly Baldur's Gate-like take on the Neverwinter Nights convention. One of Russia's most distinguished game developer and publisher, 1C company, has announced two new game projects that will be their first on the next generation consoles. The two games are based on Captain Blood novels and the successful IL-2 Sturmovik flight combat simulation series.  Both are now heading to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 (to North America with help), but even handhelds will feel some love as well.

This week welcomes the much-loved and much-awaited Metal Gear Solid 4 from Konami. No longer should we worry about broken street dates, because today it all becomes official. Atari has finally announced that the Xbox 360, PC, Wii, and PS2 versions of Alone in the Dark have finally gone gold.  In addition, the publisher of the game also gave a general time frame on when we can expect to see the PlayStation 3 version of this title on retail shelves. Alone in the Dark, Atari's final massive, mainstream videogame project 4 years in the making, will be releasing in less than a month, we're told from a recent interview with Infogrames' head honcho, Phil Harrison. Those who are still tossing dimes deciding whether they'd pick up a copy or not for their PlayStation 3s, Xbox 360s, Wiis, or Windows rigs may love what's coming before that. Atari has plans to release demos for before their version's respective release dates.

Gaming piracy is a serious problem that seems impossible to eradicate. But is there hope for game developers? According to Atari founder Nolan Bushnell, there is, thanks to the TPM encryption chips that are being built into some of the latest motherboards. More in the full article.

Phil Harrison, Infogrames' new top boss, was never secretive over his plans to cater games to the new broader market. Alone in the Dark (PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2, Windows, Xbox 360) will probably be the last major mainstream title queued up in Atari's arsenal if this was true.
