Gratuitous Space Battles - Image 1Positech GamesGratuitous Space Battles doesn't pass itself off as something that it's not. In fact, it's exactly what its title says -- a game that's all about the explosions and parts mangling that happens when armadas of heavily-armed battlecruisers and capital ships collide. It's like a 4X game where all the Xs mean "Exterminate." Here, watch this new video to see what I mean.

Final Fantasy XIV - Image 1Let's take another trip to the breathtaking land or Eorzea in this new trailer for Final Fantasy XIV (PS3, PC) fresh from TGS 09. Better make sure you ready your eyes for this one - it looks fantastic. In fact, it looks so good that it made the Marlboro seem like it smells nice...or extra rancid. Well quit stalling, see for yourself!

GaiKai - Image 1We may not have seen it at E3, but it looks like David Perry is finally ready to show off his game streaming service, Gaikai, to the public. In a new video posted on his own website, Perry demonstrates how GaiKai handles, running games like Spore, World of Warcraft, and an emulated Mario Kart 64 on a standard computer with a home cable connection. Check out the video after the jump. It's pretty impressive.

Crytek addresses Crysis Multiplayer Beta questions - Image 1The development team of Crysis has come out with a few details regarding their game's multiplayer beta. The message, addressed to the entire community, discussed various topics including the lack of a public announcement and leaked information.

A public announcement didn't come out regarding the beta because the first batch of testers was intended to be an internal test. This means friends and family only, for now. Don't feel bad though since the developers have let slip that the official public Beta is almost ready.

Regarding leaked information, both Crytek and Electronic Arts (EA) want to stress that the beta is a closed event and any posted screenshots, videos, or information from the test is a violation of the NDA that was accepted during the sign-up process. Those caught violating this will be placed on "an immediate and permanent ban from the Beta program."

Finally, players will not have to pay to join the Beta. The only thing necessary to join is an active subscriber account. Apparently, some players have been under the impression that payment will be necessary to take part in the event. The payment that was being discussed in the forums referred to becoming a member of the Founder's Club of Fileplanet which was necessary if a gamer wants to be among the few who actually were allowed into the first batch of Beta players.

It's nice that the developers took some time to answer some of the question that have been floating around the forums. Gamers should now have a clearer picture of what's happening regarding the game and the beta test. If you're not planning on joining the beta and just want to jump straight into the game, Crysis is slated to be out by this November 16.

World in Conflict - box art - Image 1Attention soldiers! Sierra Entertainment has just deployed its World in Conflict Beta Event and you're all invited.

World in Conflict is a real-time strategy game set in an alternate history where the Berlin Wall never fell. Soviets got desperate and launched attacks against the rest of Europe and the U.S. You can just imagine how ugly that would have looked. Well, we'll be getting a bit of a taste of that action in the beta test of the said video game. The World in Conflict beta features a number of game modes and multiplayer maps.

All you need to do is download the World in Conflict beta client and register for a CD-Key. Plus, the guys who pre-ordered the game - both standard and collector's editions - will be able to get an extra for the beta: an exclusive bonus map. Anyway, the beta test will run until July 31 so you better get a move on and sign up. For more info about the beta test, feel free to click the Read link below.

Enemy Territory: Quake Wars screenshots from Beta - Image 1

After seeing that slaughter gameplay montage for Enemy Territory: Quake Wars (PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC), we're sure you're left wanting more. You're in luck as we have uncovered eye candy for you, courtesy of WorthPlaying.

Activision and Splash Damage's Enemy Territory: Quake Wars is currently undergoing a public beta test and even if you've been gathering moss under that rock, you can still get a beta key. Anyway, the batch of screenshots we have today are from the beta but they still look pretty, though not as pretty as some players would have liked. In the screens, we see some of the maps that we'll be brawling in when this FPS title comes out.

We also get a peek at the lobby where players can choose which side they'll fight as (Strogg or GDF), and what unit they choose to be. We also see a spectator button smack in the middle of the two factions' icons which will be nifty if you want to check out your next opponents.

Anyway, enough babble from us. We'll keep you updated on more news regarding Enemy Territory: Quake Wars as they happen. In the meantime, check out the screenshots.

Enemy Territory: Quake Wars - open beta details - Image 1For those who have been waiting to take a crack at id Software's Enemy Territory: Quake Wars, this is your chance to do so. The public beta is imminent and they have announced the necessary information that you will need to participate in it on the community site.

First up, players have to realize that this is a beta test. It will be used to test the system they will be using and the game itself. Their announcement specifically stated that they will be collecting some data on your hardware configuration as you play to see what is exactly happening. It was also mentioned that people who just want to play a game for free "may find it a frustrating experience," since this is not the finished product.

That said, the guys at id Software are opening up 60,000 slots for the open beta of the game. To get one of the slots, simply mosey over to FilePlanet to download the client and get a license code. You should remember though that a fixed number of beta slots have been reserved for FilePlanet subscribers, while the rest of the slots will then go to those with free FilePlanet accounts. When the event starts, participants will be sent their own unique license code that is required for play.

The official start date for the public beta has not yet been announced, though it is expected to start "in the near future." More details of the beta will be announced in the future so be sure to keep checking back here for more updates on Enemy Territiory: Quake Wars.
