Warhead - Image 1The CEO and President of Crytek, Cevat Yerli, revealed that Crysis: Warhead will be quite playable on a € 400 (around US$ 621) PC, even on high settings. Now, by playable, we mean 30 frames per second...not exactly the best frame rate for power PC games, but far better than we were expecting. Electronic Arts, Crytek confirm Crysis Warhead for PC - Image 1EA and Crytek have partnered up again to introduce the recently speculated Crysis Warhead, which was often thought to be Crytek's Crysis project for consoles. It appears, however, that the majority of the rumors were wrong, and the minority was right. Crysis Warhead is the second installment to the Crysis 'verse, but it doesn't go far from the predecessor. As very few have mused before, Warhead is a retelling of the Crysis incident through the eyes of Sergeant "Psycho" Sykes (a.k.a. Jason Statham for jokers out there). More details in the full story.

Crysis patch delayed, coming January 2008 - Image 1Crytek boss Cevat Yerli's previously announced ETA for the first patch to the "maximum game," Crysis, should have resulted in a release of that much-anticipated fix. Unfortunately, it's not here, and according to a recent update from Crytek, it's likely to see the light of day by January next year. Find out why at the full story.

Crysis - Image 1Having problems with Crysis? Well, if you've sent in your complaints to Crytek, then worry no longer, as the word from Crytek's own CEO, Cevat Yerli, is that a patch is already being cooked up that should get rid of most (if not all) of the game's post-launch gremlins. Awesome!

Crysis by Crytek for the PC - Image 1After a very successful beta period, as well as the single-player demo releases, the highly-anticipated FPS title Crysis by Crytek for the PC has finally gone gold and is already prepped up for its November 16 release date. The wait is long, especially if you were able to download the demo and checked out the Crysis' use of the CryEngine 2 Sandbox editor in creating user-made levels.

Crytek is especially proud of their opus, as can be gleaned from this statement of Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli:

"We are extremely proud of what we have been able to accomplish with Crysis. We wanted to push the boundaries both visually and with open-ended, non-linear gameplay and we believe the end result delivers that vision,"

Based on what we've seen from the game so far, the Crytek guys certainly did a good job of pushing the boundaries. But in the end, you the gamers will be the judge. Prepare to give your verdicts come November 16.

Crysis from Crytek - Image 1Looks like a console version for Crysis is getting more promise: Crytek's lead level designer Sten Hubler recently gave some rather interesting comments which hinted that Crytek is already in the process of making it a reality.

Those of you who missed the last update for Crysis, the specs for the game demand a whole lot from the PC. The high demand on hardware was the reason Crytek announced last year that the game won't make it to the consoles. However, the company loosened up just earlier this month when they saw anticipation surrounding Crysis.

Now Hubler gives us a clue as to how the game might find its way into the consoles:

Obviously consoles have memory constraints, so we would have to look at the size of the levels and maybe introduce some sort of streaming ability. Gameplay-wise we would need to consider the controller and how actions can be carried out on it. But Crytek have spent the last 6-7 years working on PC titles. We haven't done a lot with consoles; we'd have to discover how it all works.

With the way he talked it seemed like Crytek has seriously considered, if not already decided, to translate Crysis for the consoles. However, it was mentioned earlier this month by Cevat Yerli, Crytek boss himself, that there are just some things that can't be sacrificed, like AI and gameplay dynamic so it's worrisome to ponder on which part of the game will have to be cut down for the transition.

Far Cry 2 - Image 1

Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli has expressed his excitement for Ubisoft's upcoming shooter Far Cry 2 , saying that he likes the direction the the developers are taking for the sequel. He also says he can't wait to play the game. "It allows the concept to co-exist and differentiates itself from Crysis and Far Cry, which is good", says Yerli. "I'm looking forward to playing Far Cry 2 for that matter".

Yerli's Crytek was the developer of the first Far Cry, but passed the torch to French publisher Ubisoft after his company hooked up with Electronic Arts for the development of Crysis. The Crytek CEO dished out more pleasantries as he revealed that he applauds Ubisoft for taking on the challenge of creating Far Cry 2. He says he likes what they're doing with non-linear play and the threaded storyline.

He revealed that those are some ideas that Crytek explored for Crysis, but were ultimately waived because it didn't fit their goals. "It sounds good on paper and we tested out a couple of things, but it didn't work for us," says Yerli.

Crysis has caught the attention of the PC-gaming community so far with a dazzling array of trailers sporting visuals which are matched by a few, if ant games to date. The title is set for release later this year and may get ported to consoles depending on its success in the initial platform.

Crysis - Image 1Crytek has finally announced the minimum and recommended system requirements for their visually-stunning shooter Crysis. The minimum requirements are quite close to the leaked specs we posted a while back.

The biggest difference is in the minimum free hard drive space needed to install the game. Previous reports had it pegged at 16GB, but according to the official specs - which incidentally were revealed by Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli himself -  the game will need only 12GB. It's still a sizable chunk, but it's manageable.

Crysis will launch on November 13, so you still have some time to upgrade your PCs in case they don't meet the system requirements yet. Here are the minimum and recommended system requirements:

Minimum System Requirements:

  • OS - Windows XP or Windows Vista
  • Processor - 2.8GHz or faster (XP); 3.2GHz or faster (Vista)
    • Supported Processors: Intel Pentium 4 2.8GHz (3.2GHz for Vista) or faster, Intel Core 2GHz (2.2GHz for Vista) or faster, and other similar CPUs.
  • Memory- 1GB RAM or 1.5GB RAM (Vista)
  • Video Card - 256MB
    • Supported chipsets: NVIDIA GeForce 6800 GT + or similar GPUs. Laptop versions of these chipsets may work but are not supported. Integrated chipsets are not supported. Updates to your video and sound card drivers may be required.
  • Hard Drive - 12GB
  • Sound Card DirectX 9.0c compatible

Recommended System Requirements:

  • OS - Windows XP / Vista
  • Processor - Intel Core 2 DUO @ 2.2GHz
  • Memory - 2GB RAM
  • GPU - NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS/640 or similar
