Mount & Blade - Image 1Oh lookie, lookie. It's another one of Paradox Interactive's PC-exclusive products, though you might say that this seems a little more ambitious than the rest. Designed by Tale Worlds, Mount & Blade was built from the ground up to be some sort of Grand Theft Auto of the Medieval Ages.Check out the screens at the full story and learn more about this sandbox game.

Paradox Interactive presents Dark Horizon trailer - Image 1Space simulations haven't been 'verse-shaking since Volition's last epic rendering of Descent FreeSpace 2, but they have always come at sweet times when the ache for a FreeSpace 3 and Descent 4 have been pulsing at an all-time high. Space Wolves and Tarr Chronicles were lovely distractions while the X universe continues to provide a leisurely sandbox experience. But some really need that sci-fi dogfighting fix, and Paradox Interactive hopes to  deliver with Dark Horizon (no relation to the flash game). Details and video flow at the full story.

Paradox Interactive accepts consoles as a way of creating a niche for PC games - Image 1PC games have always taken the backseat when it comes to its share of the gamers' market. However, in a recent interview conducted by Eurogamer with Johan Andersson, producer of Paradox Interactive, believes that consoles are actually helping niche PC titles prosper.

He explains that the reason behind this is the fact that more and more people are getting into gaming thanks to video game consoles. Because of this, the market for what kind of games people are looking for become more defined, making it easier for them to aim for a particular type of market to sell their games to. Andersson explains:

I don't want to predict where PC gaming in general is going, but for us, the increase in consoles has made the market more segmented, and consequently made it easier for us to reach our target audience and vice versa.

This is most evident with the release of Paradox Interactive's Europa Universalis III on the PC platform. The well-known strategy game already has a solid following created by its superior sales when it first came out. While the company's flagship title takes it roots from the PC, Andersson recognizes the fact that there may be a possibility for expanding the market by introducing the game to the console or the hand-held platform like the Nintendo DS.

Europa Universalis isn't the only game planning to make a move to the consoles. Other games like Sid Meier's Civilization Revolution is already confirmed to have found its way onto several consoles and hand-held platforms, ensuring the possibility that PC gaming isn't quite dead yet.

Europa Universalis III - nasty spy missions - Image 1

Europa Universalis III is a strategy game that spans from the events after the Fall of Constantinople (1453) up to the French Revolution (1789). This video game from Paradox Interactive, while covering 300 years of history, also allows players to pretty much make up their own.

No, we haven't gone back in time here at QJ Central. This is for those who are still undecided whether to get Europa Universalis III or not. They've got a new mod for additional world domination enjoyment called Magna Mundi 1.0 by Ubik and SharpAlignment. And we've got some screens featuring the other side of world conquest that takes diplomacy, trade, and espionage. Heck, you can even choose to "sow discontent". Anyway, here are the basics:

  • Adding historical plausibility to the game
  • Adding depth to the game.
  • Increasing the difficulty level of the game through a stronger abstraction of the real world.
Good thing Paradox Interactive made the Europa Universalis III mod friendly. If you're interested to get the mod, just click the Download link below and with just about any game - check out the ReadMe first. Enjoy!

Ó

Nival Interactive and Paradox Interactive are setting the stage for another blitzkrieg, so to speak, of an RTS. Since most of you can't seem to get enough of WWII scenarios, seeing Frontline: Fields of Thunder in action is more than enough to help you tide over the wait for its eventual worldwide release this month. Screenshots are one thing, videos are quite something else. And here's a trailer of the German-Russian battle.

Fields of Thunder is going to be the first in the Frontline series from Nival. From that statement alone, you can expect to find more installments in the future. Question is: who wants to bet it'd be of WWII-era also? Any takers? If the trailer below is any indication, you'd know your answer...
