Brutal body-slamming and sledgehammer-smashing wrestling action in this gameplay video of THQ's WWE Smackdown Versus Raw 2008 for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. While wrestling may be scripted, the moves themselves do hurt - and it's the same with this next-gen brawler, sporting moves that look painful to watch as they are fun to pull off.

In this video, we see Lashley and Jeff Hardy going at it toe-to-toe. We see the high-flying hijinks off the top rope that's typical of the Hardys from Jeff, as well as Lashley's signature cadre of dominating wrestling holds and moves. It's to note that the commentary this time around actually sounds very natural and convincing, unlike the robotic, one-liner descriptions of the game's previous iterations. The graphics are looking very sharp, with the animations slick, fast and awesome.

Enough from us, check out the video through the embed below. Enjoy!

The Agency's Sherry Floyd: giving 'core games' the feminine touch - Image 1

Everyone knows that Sony Online Entertainment's The Agency isn't some deep MMO built with historical lore and authentic (or imaginative) languages. The "fun now no waiting" concept that SOE geared up for the title reflects a characteristic of a basic 'core' game: instant gratification.

And SOE didn't only want to break barriers in entering the MMO market. They were also looking to breaking barriers from keeping female gamers out of the 'core' gaming loop. And that's where SOE's pro-active female developer solution kicks in: it's no longer about catering only to the male audience anymore.

And producer Sherry Floyd is proof of that movement. In a recently published interview with Joystiq, Floyd divulged details on how the female touch molding The Agency to be a hopeful hit over the PlayStation 3, the PC, the U.S., the UK and even MMO paradise Asia:

I love working with our team. Introducing them to the joys and beauty of shoes, designer suits, fantastic handbags, and deodorant warms my heart. Explaining the finer points of "classy cleavage" and what not to wear is fun to no end as well. For them, they get to train me in styles of weapon grip, tactics and how not to drink beer like a girl. Of course we have many females in the office making the game, it's actually very civilized, the boys let us wear bikinis when we're forced to mud wrestle on our lunch breaks. Just joking.

Okay, so maybe she threw our logic off at the mud wrestling bit, but the game that Sony won't be offering over the competition's platforms is being shaped by real game development talent - even if some of them are women. Floyd said that female agents in The Agency aren't all pink and plush - they're beautiful, powerful and pack quite a marksmanship.

"How good of an agent you are isn't determined by your gender, just by your dedication and skill," said Floyd and probably many might agree with her. Earlier in the interview, Floyd said she was inclined toward "immediate gratification" gameplay, gunning the mercenary ParaGON side for if it suits her mood best.

Only time will tell, however, what The Agency finally amounts to in the end. Ambitious as it is, Floyd wasn't kidding when she said the game was "HUGE!" It's got a lot of ground to cover in order to meet all of SOE's MMO objectives.

The best of the best

Game Politics put up a unique find that might help immortalize some of the most dedicated players of all time. According to their report, the Guinness Book of World Records will be putting up another videogame-related section with records for players who've picked up achievements for determination, high scores, and long life.

As you can see from the shot above, there are some new records being put up along with the quintessential high scores list that remains mostly the same from its previous incarnation 20 years back. Cody Miller's legendary speed run through Halo 2 on the Xbox is now listed, as well as a record for the guy who pulled off a three-hour speed run through the PS2's GTA: Vice City.

The records also hold some noteworthy people who've managed to get high scores in multiple games, such as Greg Sakundiak's records for Dragon's Lair, Tag Team Wrestling, and Twin Cobra, and Doris Self, our dearly departed mistress of all things Q*bert who got her place in Guinness for being the oldest competitive gamer to date.

Hopefully, they'll include some new categories next year, including "Person with the highest gamerscore ever" and "Most annoying leetspeak phrase used in online games." We'll be betting on "STFU Noob," for that last entry.

TEW 07So, you want to be in the wrestling arena without having to be beaten up inside the ring? Then this one's definitely for you! From Grey Dog Software comes yet another installment of its Total Extreme Wrestling franchise.

What makes this professional wrestling title unique from others that you've played before is that it's not just about what goes on inside the ring. Interestingly enough, it also deals with how the wrestling arena is actually managed from behind the scenes.

Dealing with road agents on the set up of the match, coordinating with the staff, as well as overseeing how an actual match needs to be performed are but some of your duties under your belt as a wrestling promoter in this game. Now, this year's TEW, unlike its two predecessors, which were built from the ground up, is being built on top of TEW 05's source code.

TEW 2007 is all set to get going supposedly in this final stretch of 2006. However, there's still no conclusive word as to when it will be out. But no worries, cos the demo is already available. So check out the demo through the read link below and let us know how it suits you.
